SOURCE: newssourcegy- 25-year-old contractor, Deon Jeffrey, has filed a $100 Million lawsuit against the state for wrongful detention after he was falsely linked by the Police to the disappearance of 11-year-old Adrianna Younge.
Jeffrey was held by the Police on the 23rd April in connection with the disappearance of the young child after the Police issued a press release identifying a car that he was driving and offering additional details on him and the car.
It turned out that the Police information was incorrect. The girl was found dead in the pool of the same hotel where she was reported missing.
In Court papers filed by his Attorney, Darren Wade, the contractor names Attorney General Anil Nandlall as the defendant. He wants wants the Court to declare that his rights to equal protection of the law under Articles 149(D) of the Constitution of Guyana was breached, and that his right to liberty was breached.
Jeffrey also wants the Court to declare that his right to freedom of movement was breached and is also seeking a declaration that the Guyana Police Force falsely detained him.
He is seeking damages in excess of $100 Million for wrongful detention and also wants the Court to award him exemplary and aggravated damages.
In his affidavit, Mr. Jeffery told the Court that since the incorrect information linking him to the disappearance of the child was released by the Police, he has lost contracts.
He detailed that he had been awarded a construction contract, valued at $500,000 for the embankment of a drainage system and the casting of a bridge at La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara.
He said the project was scheduled to commence on the same day as the incident. The contractor explained that due to the incident, he was informed that the contract had to be cancelled because of the alleged association with criminality.
He said a second contract he had valued at $275,000 for an internal ceiling work in Schoonord Housing Scheme was also cancelled, with the owner of the house telling the man that he did not want him around his children.
Jeffrey in his pleadings to the Court, said the Police had no reasonable grounds to arrest and detain him and made clear that he was not involved in any crime and that was the first time he was arrested.,
He said as a result of the incident he feels humiliated and embarrassed.

Well done, his attorney must sue. The only reason I did not have my father do the same thing was that I did not and still do not believe that any local attorneys in Antigua is bold enough to fight in the manner I pushed in his criminal charges.
People need to start suing the government for wrongful detention, detention without probable cause, etcetera. Sue the government.
The Spanish lady that was just arrested without, at this time she should not be in prison without probable cause and such probable cause can not be determined without cause of death which has not been determined to this day.
I demand her release now, until you have probable cause that includes cause of death that is connected to the Spanish lady. If you take away her constitutional rights like those people being sent to El Salvado then you are taking away all our right.
Due process is vitally important and should be applied in every case in Antigua and Barbuda and it is clear ABLP care nothing for this. You are spitting in the innocent child’s face by denying people due process, and the state victimizing potential innocent people.
Release the Spanish lady now and have an attorney from outside the jurisdiction represents her.
