Foreign Affairs Minister and ABLP Chairman EP Chet Greene has made an emotional appeal for greater Caribbean solidarity, warning that regional disunity threatens the ability of small island states to survive global economic challenges.
Speaking on Pointe FM over the weekend, Greene criticised lingering prejudices across the Caribbean, including xenophobic attitudes towards Jamaicans and Dominicans living in Antigua and Barbuda.
“We have to stop telling Jamaicans and Dominicans to go home.
That is not the solution—could never be the solution,” Greene said.
“The same Dominicans and Jamaicans being told to go home are being expelled from the United States just like Antiguans are. We’re all in the same boat.”
Greene argued that small island developing states (SIDS) must now embrace a common regional identity if they are to effectively respond to shifting global trade dynamics and rising economic nationalism.
He warned that without unity, Caribbean countries will continue to be sidelined in major global decisions that impact their economies.
“Trade requires market,” Greene said. “If we want regional manufacturing and food security, we need to embrace Caribbean civilisation—not just as an idea but as a practical strategy for survival.”
His comments come amid new U.S. tariffs on foreign imports and growing uncertainty in global trade arrangements, which Greene said could lead to increased costs for food, medicine, and consumer goods.
As Antigua and Barbuda seeks to diversify its trading partners, he urged the public to see fellow Caribbean nationals as part of the solution—not the problem.
“The status quo is no more.
Whether we like it or not, the way the world works is changing, and we have to change with it—together,” Greene said.
He noted that past divisions had already cost the region valuable opportunities, referencing the failure of the West Indies Federation and the ongoing challenges of economic integration.
But he also pointed to hope: a regional agricultural initiative and renewed diplomatic engagement with Latin America and Asia.
“We must use this moment to build something stronger across the Caribbean. If we embrace each other, we can face what’s coming. But if we remain divided, we’ll all fall alone,” Greene said.
His message echoed broader calls for regional resilience, with CARICOM already promoting a 25 by 2025 food security initiative and ongoing talks around regional manufacturing and energy cooperation.
For Greene, however, unity must go beyond high-level policy.
“This is about people. It’s about how we treat each other on the ground, in our communities, in our businesses. Regionalism cannot succeed without regional respect,” he said.

Can we find a different name for people from the DR? Dominican is taken. Spanish people can work…I mean, who is here from Spain anyway?
Very good Mr Greene .. I’m Antiguan, well I was born here and so was my parents but my parents parents were not from antigua, do your home work people .. we were all from former Slaves who were brought here from all over..please stop the xenophobia …God is good..
@Confusion they can just say Dominicanos. Then people will be able to differentiate between the two groups.
Qe all one Caribbean 0pl America doesn’t want is antigua so why are we targeting other country we should stand together now Antiguans see how it feels when no one wants them in there country
Dominicans or Dominican Republicans
This Green colored hypocrite thinks he’s fooling anyone if the majority of foreigners in this country did not vote Labour he would be against them too, but he and his colleagues keep saying Antiguans are against them just to get their votes at election time
Here we go again!!!
Chet Greene trying to play on the psyche of the foreigners.
The only time they have use for the foreigners is during elextions.
They are the ones who raised the fee for everything the foreigners need to get settled.
Whenever elections approach they play the nationality card.
Foreigners, take my word.
The sooner you get rid of ALP the better.
One stinking Dominican named Telemaque need to get send back home. That asshole think he is some kind a king.
With any luck stroke or dementia or heart attack or all a dem will hold his rass one day.

When the writer says “Dominicans” in this scenario, he’s does NOT mean people from Dominica. He’s talking about persons from the DOMINICAN 🇩🇴 REPUBLIC (Santo Domingo). Just to clear up any misinformation. So “NATURE ISLE” people, he’s not referring to you 🫂 .
If you’re disrespectful to the country you choose to make life in, i will continue to tell you go home.
There is nothing wrong with law abiding Jamaicans being here. The criminals that the government seems to be giving a pass however need to go home. There are many young ones here who have formed gangs and are robbing people at gunpoint and doing bodily harm. We should have no issues with Dominicans (from the DR). Dominicans stay within their communities and mind their business. CARICOM nationals have limited stay of 6 months within the member states and work permits are required, so there are stipulations that must be adhered to. If the author were speaking about Dominicans from Dominica, then he is sorely misinformed. They are a part of OCECS which means they can come to Antigua and stay for as long as they want and vice versa.
First to begin with !! these Foreigners don’t respect Antiguans and Barbudans, owing to the autonomy given to them by the Antigua Labour Party over its own people.
They behave themselves, as if we are the ones who are in their Country, even the Syrians are beginning to show their contempt for the indigenous Antiguans and even this same Government.
These same Foreigners are the ones keeping Chet Greene and the Antigua Labour Party in Government. Imagine that some Antiguans are afraid to talk their minds and will even join with these people against their very own.
And you know what’s the most hurtful, you can’t go to their Country and even wear a colour that is not popular, this can easily caused your.dimised.
The Labour Party is not in no position to be telling Antiguans and Barbudans how to talk to Foreigner, owing to the animosity and resentment that they have created between both Antiguans and these Foreigners.
Wa gone bad a morning can’t come good a evening. This is a problem that has been nertured and developed, with the enabling environment created to sustained it, Mr Greene..
I am accustomed to get lick down and tear down for speaking the truth, but I won’t be ever be compromised or sell my soul to the Devil.
Not according to UPP’s leadership
Poor Richard and his yardie
His party is the one who sends the message. They increase all kinds of fees to hurt these people but they become very useful at voting time. Whenever the immigration buses make their raids, who do they apprehend to be deported? These are the same people who wait in lines that are longer than from today to tomorrow at the immigration station, while all the others get their businesses done through the same persons who are talking about caribbean integration. You have nothing to give to them after the elections so you can go to hell. You have come to make here your home, pay your taxes and make your contributions and all these people do is make comparisons with Antigua and your respective territories, talking about how violent and unsafe your homelands are. Ask Alan LaRose, Julius Gittens and the others. Don’t be fooled by them. Old hypocrites.
I have no problem, once they make meaningful contribution and don’t bring any
bad habits that will destroyed our peaceful society.
Antigua must be the only country on the planet with government officials talking this kind of crap and still have a job.
Antiguans First second third fourth and fifth.
Antigua is 108 Sq mile and it is time for the Syrian, Lebanese, Chinese, Americans, British, Italians etc to get deported just like Caribbean people..
Chet Greene I dear you to remove the Haitian visa restriction and allow the Haitians into the country like the Jamaicans and Dominicans.
Chet Greene, is election around the corner? Whenever election is imminent you labour people come out talking about non Antiguans, catering for the non-nation votes as their votes are keeping your government in power. Have you noticed all the non Antiguans turning St. Johns into a ghetto with all their trays and selling all over the place? You are bringing them in but you have no housing or jobs for them. St. Johns had never been such a mess until these people came into the country and set up their trays all over the place.
One You Tuber to Antigua asked the vendors where they were from and at lease 90% were from Jamaica and Guyana.
Your government couldn’t care less about Antigua and non nationals. You just want to stay in power.
So what else you want the born Antiguan’s to say?
Their Government has one of the most porous and slack immigration system in all of the Caribbean, that’s a fact.
Criminals come from all corners to hide out in Gatson Brownes backyard..
What else you want the people who are fed up with the crime rate to say?
People don’t feel safe in their own homes and cars Chet. You and your band of fools do something about it, simple.
@greene: you think chet trupit? A election a come soon you know, and only with these nationality they may escape jail after losing power and diplomatic immunity.
Some need to go home. Just like some people in the US need to go home. Antigua and Barbuda would be wealthier if ABLP was selective about who can come (no criminal record, a skill or degree, family relationship, etcetera).
Chet is a JACKASS, just waiting for Gaston’s demise, his radio station isn’t popular enough to spew his filth you people are the real traitors to foreigners you use and abuse them more than the ordinary citizen
Greene is free to go home to Jamaica or DR with his people. Antigua for Antiguans.
In my 59 years of life, growing up in Antigua. I’ve always experienced living amongst Dominicans and Montserratans. They were welcomed as second citizens of our beautiful island. In the 80’s we started getting an influx of Caricom Nationals migration to the island which continued I to the 2000’s. While I am not against Caricom nationals living amongst us. Let is be realistic and honest. Crime has expanded due to it. A vast majority are done by Jamaicans and Guyanese. Let me make it clear not all are criminals. There are those that are 100% law abiding citizens. There are a few not so desirable law abiding ones that have slipped through the cracks. Those are the ones that are giving their country of birth a bad name. If we were to do a deep sear h we would see that quite a number of Antiguan me our grandfathers in the 30″s and 40’s went to Dominica and Santo Domingo and had children there before returning to Antigua. So there may be some distant relatives from those countries living amongst us.
