Grammarians display their work

After celebrating 134 years of educating the nation’s youth on Monday, March 26, the administration and students at the Antigua Grammar School (AGS) hosted an open house exhibition on Tuesday.

The event showcased the work of students under the varying departments that operate on the school plant. On display were dynamic paintings in the art department, luscious agricultural produce, intricate circuitry, crafts and textiles and clever language lab projects, among other works.

The students at the school not only had an opportunity to get a glimpse at the work of each department, but past Grammarians, parents, and well-wishers also attended the event to show support for the school and its pupils.

Head of the Fine Arts Department and visual arts teacher at AGS Bernard Peters, who was one of the main organisers of the event, explained that the showcase is not new to the school’s calendar of events but was last held in 2012.

“The students needed to see the collective work they have created over the year. It was felt that parents needed to see the work produced at the school also,” he said. “Each department needed to see what the other departments created as well.”

Governor General Sir Rodney Williams, who is a past student of AGS, also attended the event, accompanied by his wife, Lady Williams.

Peters said it was an opportunity for the students “to be proud of what they created”, while at the same time promoting school unity and pride.

He also congratulated the committee members and staff for working to show the “extremely multifaceted” nature of the school.
