Gov’t Unveils Infrastructure Plans for Barbuda

Utilities Minister Melford Nicholas has announced that the government will ramp up infrastructure work in Barbuda to support ongoing development projects.

Speaking on Pointe FM, Nicholas said he plans to spend about a week on the island to assess the energy needs, noting the current solar plant has “reached the top of its utility.” He said a new energy grid is needed to supply power to upcoming developments near the new port and commercial district.

Plans also include repurposing the old airport and advancing a housing project at Louie Hill—both requiring upgrades to energy, water, and telecom systems.

“Some work is going to be required in Barbuda over the next 18 months, and we’ve got to get in there early,” Nicholas said.

The government says the push is part of its commitment to Barbuda’s development.

  1. This all sounds well and good for any country’s development especially Barbuda. But is it really true what they are saying is intended to happen based on past experiences with this government? After all there is no denying the many plans and promises that were never kept or started and failed..Those also sounded good too. so…..

  2. Not telling anyone how to do their jobs but please consider burying utilities in light of the occasional hurricanes and the damage they cause to utility lines. This will not only be most cost effective but also convenient.
