Gov’t Plans Automated Water Management System to Tackle Shortages
Utilities Minister Melford Nicholas says the government is moving to modernise Antigua and Barbuda’s water distribution system in response to ongoing shortages.
Speaking on Observer AM, Nicholas revealed discussions are underway with a Trinidadian company to supply an automated system that would replace the current manual process of redirecting water across the country.
He noted that technicians currently work overnight to physically turn valves, a method he described as inefficient. The new system, expected to be operational by year’s end, will allow seamless, remote control of water flow.
Nicholas also pointed to insufficient storage capacity as a major factor behind the recurring shortages, despite the expansion and upgrades of reverse osmosis plants.
“People are getting water—but not necessarily when they want it,” he said.
The government hopes the new technology will provide a long-term solution to the nation’s water woes.

You get what you elected.
A bunch of incompetent and lazy idiots, who goes on the radio and insults with the “insufficient storage”.
Over 25 years ago I came back from the virgin islands and stood up in meetings and told APUA about automated water valves and online water booster to push water up hill they are now grasping it, but the guy Bryan Nicholas in the picture is a very smart guy but his hands is tied, remember the late clarvis Joseph said Nicholas should be the electricity manager instead of that bad minded waste Andre Mathias? APUA management isn’t dynamic, they keep repeating what’s on the books from colonial era when england ran everything, new ideas are brought by the experience not university graduates or menial worker, the engineers does nothing but over look the ordinary workers economic progression to stymie them from develop themselves, especially the electricity manager. Yep! Back in other utility company you stay at a main office and control the valves by computer keyboard, and the inline water booster some white people force them bursting they brains to do one at the foot of the hill going up Shirley’s height, and they still not learning, still having a lot of potential customers unable to apply for water because they live on hills.
will it fix the pipes that still leaking all over the place?
Every week Browne and his minions coming up with new ideas to ” tackle the water shortage” But which one will actually work?
I not even getting my hopes up for this one.
How about just leave the water on…all the time? You don’t need a computer to do that. If they were producing enough there wouldn’t be any need to turn on and off.
I am totally distracted by Melford sexy eyes..
😅
What’s going on with his eyes?
Geeez!😏
Another fool hardy scheme..
Father help us!
They are wasting money by buying time so that their water delivery trucks can continue raking in hundreds of thousands of dollars. They are very deliberate with their scheme.
