The next session of Parliament will open on November 20, when Governor-General Sir Rodney Williams delivers the Speech from the Throne, outlining the government’s legislative priorities for the coming year.

Director General of Communications Maurice Merchant confirmed the date during Thursday’s post-Cabinet press briefing, noting that the opening will set the stage for a busy parliamentary schedule leading up to Budget Day on December 4.

Merchant said the Speech from the Throne will outline several key initiatives expected to dominate the legislative agenda, including bills focused on elderly protection, mental health reform, and the licensing of elderly care homes, all of which are scheduled to be presented in the first quarter of 2026.

The annual Speech from the Throne marks the formal start of a new parliamentary session and provides an overview of the government’s policy direction and legislative intent for the year ahead.
