During the Throne Speech delivered on Thursday, Governor General Sir Rodney Williams expressed profound gratitude to the medical personnel in China for their swift and expert intervention during a medical emergency that saved the life of Lady Williams.
Reflecting on the ordeal, Sir Rodney shared that Lady Williams faced a critical health crisis while on an official trip to China representing Antigua and Barbuda.
“Lady Williams and I are grateful for the outpouring of empathy and well wishes which were received following the medical crisis during Her Excellency’s recent trip to represent Antigua and Barbuda at the conference,” he said.
The Governor General commended the skill and responsiveness of Chinese surgeons and medical personnel, whose actions proved decisive in ensuring a positive outcome.
“We are both thankful for the expertise of the surgeons and other medical personnel in China, whose swift action ensured that her life was saved,” he added, noting the life-saving care provided during a moment of immense difficulty.
Sir Rodney also acknowledged the invaluable support of the diplomatic missions involved. “I wish to also express profound appreciation to the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Antigua and Barbuda, and the Antigua and Barbuda Embassy based in Beijing, for their caring and considerate intervention,” he said.
