However, according to well-placed government sources, the new facility will not be called Clarevue hospital, but a Wellness Centre where the focus will be on both mental health and wellness.

The building sits on 6 acres of land and it was used as the worship centre.

The sources say both parties have agreed on a price of US$3 million but it is anticipated that it will require additional funding to refit the building to accommodate patients and others who may seek specialized care there.

According to the sources, there is a strong desire on the part of the government to initiate a fresh start with the new facility on how people view mental health care and a new focus on wellness.

There have been complaints about the conditions under which patients at the Clarevue hospital have had to live and the purchase of the Jehovah’s Witness property is a positive step to have them move into an aesthetically more pleasing and modern facility.

  1. Of all.places to aquire? You know how long them jehovah witnesses trying to sell that place? Make sure there is a cleanse because pure demon dem be

  2. Happy to hear of the LIAT rebrand, but I’m suspicious about it’s business planning, and commercialization leading towards systainable profitability.

  3. They wanted too much money at first when they told the former MP Brown no. Now they are going to send the money the the white men at their headquarters in New York and can’t even help their members who suffer hard times. They rather tell other members to look out for their brothers and sisters and the men in New York get all this money. It was sad to see some of their members fell sick to cancer and they couldn’t even used money in the bank to help with treatment they rather they die because they are in Jehovah’s memory they say. Outright wickedness!!!

  4. I think this is a wonderful venture. Considering the wellness and rehabilitation angle of it all. I do hope consideration is taken to retrofit and allocate spaces that are fit-for-purpose. Having it as a half-way house for former addicts (drug or otherwise), safety area for abused children and women, focus on healthy lifestyle (meditation, yoga, use of beaches, gym facilities, hydro recovery and care) along with a dimension of psychiatric and social care will be a wonderful additional. We may finally have world class facilities for the countless persons suffering from mental and behavioural issues currently affecting work places and homes as well as the society at large. Key would also be a tracking and monitoring system to ensure persons are kept on the right track and can give back. My only concern would be the funding required to maintain and upkeep such a facility and programme. These are the sort of things that should be the focus of tax dollars, grants and even direct aid from friendly governments.

  5. When I lived in Antigua. My next door neighbor had a sign posted. It said: NO JEHOVAH WITNESSES OR DOGS ALLOWED.Back then,I thought it was really funny.

  6. This right here is what Jehovah Witnesses are REALLY about. Selling properties built on the free labour of their members to turn profit. Luckily this building now will be used for a good purpose which will benefit the community and NOT a corporation.

  7. You are NOT what your username says!! A heathen imposter trying to take a lying dig at JWs.

Let’s be thankful for what the building will be used for now.

  8. Do any of you saying those nonsenses about Jehovah’s Witnesses ever had listened to them?
These are the most wonderful people on earth, peace loving, using thier time to talk and teach people freely about God and the Bible.

  9. The stigma surrounding mental health in Antigua and Barbuda runs deep. And the deplorable state of the current facility is long known and recognized. But is not only the current building that is deplorable – the food, the working conditions of the staff and the service offered there is just as bad. Patients sleep in substandard dormitories. There are some patients in that facility since in the 1950’s.
So a move is justified and welcomed. It will also allow for mentally ill persons who are in the prison to be properly housed in a facility that can appropriately care for them.
I honestly would have been happier if the facility at Crabbs be fixed and refurbished in order to accommodate them but it is really time to do away with the current facility. This new building is way overpriced but would provide a measure of comfort unlike anything that the institution and its inmates has seen. I just hope that the place will be properly maintained and upkeep such that we do not see another run down structure within a year of occupancy.

  10. That’s a good idea, I can see the influence of all the UPP defectors bringing good influence to the ALP and Gaston brown, the more upp people join ALP we get to carry out upp people first mandate.
