Browne Says UWI Five Islands Tuition to Become Free for Eligible Citizens After Campus Upgrades
Prime Minister Gaston Browne said Wednesday that tuition at the University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus will be free for eligible Antiguan citizens once ongoing upgrades to the campus are completed.
Browne made the announcement during the presentation of the 2026 national budget in Parliament, outlining a series of education measures his administration plans to roll out next year.
He also said tuition fees at the Antigua and Barbuda College of Advance Studies will be removed in 2026, and that the government will cover the cost for all students sitting CSEC examinations.
Browne framed the initiatives as investments meant to expand access to higher education and ease financial pressure on families across the country.

Even has a handout I can’t be upset at a policy that will actually improve the quality of live in Antigua and Barbuda if implemented. UPP wanted to this years ago trying to cover CXC cost they didn’t get to complete it. The opposition should keep pushing for progressive policies because even if they don’t win on them it pressures the governing party to implement popular social policies that clutches for power we might hear next the $13.50 min wage rise since they are looking to call a early election and want these policies fresh in the minds of people instead of the poor handling of the Vehicle and yacht scandal.
