The attention of the Government of Antigua and Barbuda has been brought to a press statement issued by Mr. Asot Michael in which elaborate and false accusations have been made, trying to implicate Prime Minister Gaston Browne in yet another scandal involving Mr. Michael.
According to Mr. Michael’s press statement, he has been accused of harassing an employee of the EMS who has lodged a complaint with the Police. This is not the first time that Mr. Michael has been accused of sexual violations, involving our youth. My government expects the police and prosecution authorities to do all that they can within the law to protect our youth from sexual predators and to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
It is Mr. Michael’s normal practice whenever his notorious behaviour becomes public knowledge, to cast himself as a victim and to falsely and maliciously accuse others of conspiring against him. This is his usual attempt to cover-up wrongful deeds and to distract attention from himself.
The Government of Antigua and Barbuda makes it clear that no one in the government, including the Prime Minister, was aware of the complaint of molestation brought against Asot Michael by an EMS employee, until the complaint was made to the Police and the information was circulated in the public domain.
As far as the Government is concerned, the matters to which Asot Michael refers in his press statement are between him, his accuser and the Police who, no doubt, will deal with it in the same manner with which it deals with all complaints of sexual assault.
There are aspects of Mr. Michael’s statement concerning the Prime Minister which are defamatory on their face. In this regard, legal advice will be sought and appropriate action taken.

I wish all victims of sexual assault or any other assault would receive the same level of priority that this allegation against Mr Michael is going to receive. Sadly Mr Michael will be like a lamb to the slaughter in this instance. He who is without sin let him cast the first stone.

In my opinion it was a set up to embarrass Asot Michael. It just backfired into their faces.

IF there is a sexual violation of any kind, throw the book at the perprtrator and bring him to justice. This is a matter for the police and the courts. They need to get to the bottom of this.
