Government of Antigua Abandons Cruise Ship Plan for SIDS Conference Accommodation

The government of Antigua and Barbuda has made a decisive shift in its plans for accommodating delegates to the SIDS4 Conference, scrapping the idea of using cruise ships due to prohibitive costs.

The decision comes after a thorough examination by the Cabinet, which revealed that the expense of chartering cruise ships to house hundreds of delegates would be unsustainable for the nation.

In a recent Cabinet meeting, officials discussed alternative approaches to lodging for conference attendees.

It was revealed that an expert tasked with finding viable solutions had categorized various accommodation options, including Airbnb rentals, houses, and apartments, into three tiers: A, B, and C.

According to the expert’s report, accommodations falling under the A-level category will cost up to USD$280 per day, while those in the B-level category will be priced at up to USD$250 daily.

For more budget-conscious options, accommodations in the C-level category will be available at rates up to USD$200 per day.

  1. If I was a air bnb owner I would use this opportunity to get my lick back!!!! I would tax and insurance and double my cost per room for his a$$. Just the way he did them.

    • Ignorance is truly blissful. You think the government is going to pay the bills for the accommodations of these people. Common…

  2. I doubt that 500 people will be coming
I would go to Samoa but why would I go to Antigua
We have sufficient been displaced from the most exotic places in the world to visit
Due to our tourism successes, people will opt to come Antigua at a less stressful time even if it’s on their own dime

  3. Wow, one must be a real expert to find out the accommodation prices in Antigua.
How much of the taxpayers’ money has been paid for such report???
I could make it in one day for free 🙂

  4. Piss poor planning. When is the SIDS conference again? Everything should have been in place before now. Of course we know this government is full of big talk but poor management skills. A lot of incompetent people. Let’s see how this pans out.

  5. I doubt these people will stay more than two (2) nights. I hope they get to wash them kin, at least one time and get some of Donna pig meat.

  6. Antiguans have the the wiseist and best economist as the prime minister in the Caribbean. No wonder why he never us keen to be in a room with them. They are not up to his standard as far as planning. Take the Bajan butch as an example. She/he is envious of him and have nothing good to say about him like if he cares. If Antigua had natural resources like Trinidad it would be a first world county by now.
