The government is exploring opportunities to establish a flight school and expand aviation maintenance services in Antigua and Barbuda, with discussions underway with potential investors.
According to Prime Minister Gaston Browne, efforts are being made to develop a comprehensive aviation training ecosystem, which would include a flight school and an aircraft maintenance facility.
He noted that while discussions have taken place with various groups, including investors from Trinidad, the government is assessing the feasibility of such initiatives.
Antigua and Barbuda already has a program at the Antigua State College focused on aircraft maintenance, but Browne indicated that further investment is needed to expand training opportunities.
The aim, he said, is to position the country as a hub for aviation training and maintenance within the Eastern Caribbean.
The move aligns with broader government plans to strengthen the aviation sector, which has seen increased interest from airlines and private operators.
Officials have highlighted the potential economic benefits, including job creation and improved technical expertise within the region.

While no definitive agreements have been announced, Browne stated that the government remains committed to advancing the sector and will continue engaging with stakeholders to secure investment.

The aircraft maintenance program at state college has been inactive for around 4 years now
The lack of vision, support and understanding of aviation prevented the program at the Antigua State College from succeeding. Once the government is involved as a primary stake holder, it will not get off the ground. The only option is to find an existing organization willing to expand or start in Antigua. It
needs to stay independent as much as possible from the government and NOT rely on any government subsidies or support, otherwise it will wither and die .
I hope the government ensures that the training programs stay accessible to all interested people.
I hope the government ensures that the training programs stay accessible to all interested people.
I hope that the necessary funding and resources are allocated for success.
Expanding aviation training is a great move for the country’s future. It could open up a lot of opportunities for local talent.
