Government House Restoration on Track for Early 2026 Completion

Antigua and Barbuda’s historic Government House is set to reopen in the first quarter of 2026, according to Dr Gabriella Howell, Director of Historic Preservation at the Heritage Trust.

“We’re looking at quarter one of 2026, so we are very hopeful that we are able to keep to that timeline,” she said, noting that most external work will wrap up within six weeks. Internal restoration is now the main focus, aided by new infrastructure including a water tech building to prepare for the rainy season.

The site will also feature a museum honouring past and present Governor Generals, their families, and staff. Visitors will be able to hear personal stories via interactive exhibits.

The Heritage Trust aims to preserve as much of the original building and its contents as possible, marking a major step in protecting one of the nation’s key heritage landmarks.
