Amidst the coronavirus pandemic, the government is enforcing the 1946 Quarantine Act which states that a maximum of 25 persons are allowed at restaurants, bars, clubs and other public places in order to reduce the risk of community infections.
That number has been reduced from an original 50. Those restaurants, clubs and bars that choose to exceed the 25-person limit are subject to having their licenses suspended or revoked. Churches, funerals and prayer groups are also limited to 25 persons for the same reason.
While preparations are being made for the possibility of caring for more than 100 sick and infected persons, the object of the directives is to reduce the probability of community infections among the Antigua and Barbuda population.

Under this rule only the ting wayside churches will be allowed to function. They are the praying ones. Thank God for those old church ladies who carry on as they intercede for the nation and all of us. Thank you.
Stop mopping and turn off the pipe.
No need to do any of this if the door is closed.
These politicians gambling with people’s life for money.
Door left open virus comes in unknowingly spread in a densely populated area still unknowingly, then all of a sudden caboom from 1 to 50 in 7 days, the 5 room isolation ward becomes a serious joke and the health care system collapses.
Take heed
Melchisedec – yes agreed completely! They should shut the borders to non-essential travel immediately. And I agree that the 5 room ward will look like a joke if it takes off, but hoping it doesn’t…
I could not have said this any better. Our situation can get very drastic very quickly.
This is where we stop the bus and ask all the economic envoys and ambassadors to contribute financially or in kind or get off the bus right here.
Mr PM we know you are not afraid so go shake down all the envoys and ambassadors its put up or get out.
The expected social program roll out needs funding so before you put the country in any more debt cheque the envoys.
Can someone please explain to me exactly how they can lower the risk of spreading the virus if there is only one case that was imported and is in isolation?
If it is not here how can it spread I do not understand that type of math…
They must know something that we do not know why all these counter measures taking place.
Melchisedec – yes I can explain, it isn’t “only one case” it is only one KNOWN case – that is the difference. But since there is virtually no testing happening then the actual number is likely to be more. Furthermore, Antigua & Barbuda’s borders are still fully open. There are still people travelling here daily from the UK (a current hot spot of the virus) and there are still people travelling daily from other infected Caribbean islands. Border screening is not effective, since incubation period can be many days, and additionally some infected remain completely symptom-less whilst still being highly infectious. Hopefully this clearly explains the need to mitigate spread.
You smart. All this time and just one person will be infected as compared to other places with hundreds of people being infected in a short space of time. I believe we all had our brains transplanted.
Beautiful Antiguans. Please look after each other and follow the World Health Organisation advice. This is a misunderstood and dangerous virus. If you can shop for those who are old and frail and make sure they self isolate then you will be a diamond. Please don’t think you are immune. Look to London and Europe…Blessings xxxxxxx
How Many covid-19 test the gov do daily?.. only 2 ir 3?… And after 2 days the results came to the island? Really think that here are only 3 cases?? Please be Smart and know that all the Antiguans need to be right now in quarentine. Take all the precautions and not take this pandemic like a joke… If You see ppl with mask are Not sick .. Is the minimal precautions that all persons need to have…
Please tell me what is the law? A Cabinet directive as the article says is not law and the police cannot enforce a directive. The police can only enforce the criminal law, so I hope the new Commission of Police Atlee Rodney is aware of that and do not fall victim to the Cabinet’s announced nonsense.
