St Vincent Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves has urged the removal of visa requirements between African and Caribbean nations, calling it a vital step in deepening historical and cultural ties.
Speaking at a landmark gathering in Shashemene, Ethiopia, Gonsalves said visa-free travel should move beyond bilateral deals to a wider regional framework.
Reflecting on his 2005 visit to Ethiopia, he described the initiative as transformative and linked it to ongoing calls for reparatory justice.
The meeting marked the first time a large Caribbean delegation gathered in Shashemene, a site central to the Rastafari movement. Ethiopia’s longstanding offer of 500 acres for Rastafari repatriation was cited as a symbol of the enduring connection between the two regions.
“We will succeed, as sure as the sun rises,” Gonsalves declared.

If you fell that you are dependent from USA is your problem. I just see free market of choices. No one is telling Antigua who to trade with. Antigua business choose USA sources due convenience, nothing wrong with that. China is far far away and we bring thousand of containers from there also, same we can do from any Africa nation…What they are offering that we may feel happy to trade?
What I feel they can offer, Agriculture products, building materials, clothing basically everything we buy from other nation can be gotten in Africa only difference with Africa and China is china has the finished product but most of the world’s good are sourced from Africa, like Trumps tariff exposed the clothing industry to a lot of people who weren’t aware.

visa free travel will only allows people to take opportunity it just provides freedom, like American and EU has so tell me what Africans do in EU you talking about the ones that becomes footballers, or the Entrepreneurs or the people that leaves on scholarships into STEM? or the average person that families save up to send to a country with better opportunity to send home and provide for their love ones?
