Mikhail Gomes, the man charged on Tuesday with murdering his ex-girlfriend, has been remanded to prison after making his first court appearance.

Looking calm and relaxed, the man who was last seen with missing woman Vincia James, exited the St. John’s Magistrates Court in shackles.

James’ family were also in court.

He will appear in court again on July 18, 2017 for committal proceedings. Police believe they have a case, even with the woman still missing.

Some residents have called for international assistance to help find Vincia and solve one of the biggest mysteries for the year.

Commenting on an Antigua News Room post, one resident said funds raised for information on Vincia’s whereabouts should be used to bring in Scotland Yard.

Former Police Commissioner Rolston Pompey said such a move may not yield the desired results.

He told a radio call-in programme that not only will the venture be very costly, Scotland Yard may lack the necessary local knowledge to gather the evidence.

Vincia’s family meantime, are grateful for the out pouring of assistance and support during their ordeal.

Speaking on state media Wednesday, Farida Isaac Carr said “thank you” to everyone.

She said the family is “still grieving” and continue to appeal for the public to share any information that they have.

Vincia James was last seen on April 7. One month after he disappearance, lawmen charged her ex-boyfriend with murder.
