A community Glow Walk will take place in St John’s next Friday evening as sports broadcaster Joseph “Jojo” Apparicio turns his birthday celebration into a fundraiser for a former colleague recovering from a stroke.
The event, on 31 January, will raise funds for ex-Observer Radio host Paul Quinn, who suffered a severe stroke in November 2024. Participants will gather at 6pm at the Yasco Sports Complex before walking through the capital wearing glow sticks and reflective gear.
Mr Apparicio, host of Observer Radio’s Good Morning Jojo Sports Show, said he decided to dedicate his annual birthday charity initiative to Mr Quinn after his sudden illness.
Mr Quinn’s wife, Sheriann, said her husband was initially given only days to live but has since made steady progress. He is now off oxygen, can move all his limbs and remains mentally alert, though a tracheostomy prevents him from speaking.

She said he continues to engage with radio by listening to Observer Radio each morning and responding emotionally to programmes he recognises.
Mrs Quinn thanked members of the public for their ongoing support and prayers, saying they have played an important role in her husband’s recovery.
Mr Apparicio said the cost of long-term medical care places significant financial pressure on families and encouraged the public to support the fundraiser. All proceeds will go towards Mr Quinn’s medical and recovery expenses.
Donations can be made on the night or arranged in advance. The walk begins at 6pm on 31 January at the Yasco Sports Complex.
