The Girl Guides Association of Antigua and Barbuda will now operate as an incorporated entity following the passage of the Girls Guide Association of Antigua and Barbuda (Incorporation) Bill in Parliament on Tuesday.

The Bill grants the organization legal status, allowing it to hold property, enter contracts, and further its mission of empowering young women. It establishes a governing council, ensures nonprofit operations, protects the Association’s name and branding, and transfers its assets and liabilities to the new entity.

Additionally, the law penalizes unauthorized use of the Association’s identity, with fines up to $2,000 or six months’ imprisonment.

MP Maria Bird-Browne welcomed the move, aligning it with upcoming International Women’s Day celebrations, while Sir Molwyn Joseph highlighted its role in guiding youth away from crime. The Act will take effect on a date set by the Minister and published in the Gazette.
