If the attacking intent and goals aided by defensive rigidity which Garden Star served up so far in their two Warriors Cup matches is an indication of what to expect this season in the Premier Division then the public can expect a sumptuous feast soon.
They netted seven against Master Ballerz to take their tally to 12 without conceding and in the process became the only unbeaten team to date in this year’s tournament which started in 2006.
Meanwhile, CPTSA Wings bounced back from their defeat to the Garden men on Friday, to power past Sea View Farm 4-2 in the first match of Saturday’s doubleheader at Radio Range.
Moving the ball quickly and picking spaces at will on a wet surface Stars whetted the appetite of the spectators who were left gushing for more. Their defence gave Ballerz hardly a sniff at goal as Ocie Knight marshalled the troops with Curtnie ‘Igor’ Roberts standing firm.
Teenage striker Karique Knight, who scored at age 13 in the Premier Division in 2019, took his tally to three goals in two matches, making it 4-0 before half-time as Astel Joseph side ran riot over Ballerz who had defeated Wings in their opening game. Knight, 17, was supported by double strikes from Kemoi Walsh on 19 and 23 minutes and Allan Martin (65m & 78m) as well as a Jahred Williams strike which deflected off Ballerz’ Akeem Smith who was credited with an own goal.
Wings – playing with tenacity and verve – easily disposed of Farm who looked out-of-sorts. Georgette Lewis’ side attacked relentlessly and were rewarded with goals by Sean Tomlinson, Jaylon St Claire, Kadeem Campbell and Tafari Looby. Forward Zafique Drew replied with a double for SVF.
