A truce has been agreed between the 2 Drilly and Grays Farm Killers gangs, Prime Minister Gaston Browne announced during an interview.
The agreement followed a meeting organized by the Prime Minister at People’s Place. Browne revealed the gangs will participate in a football match later this month as a symbol of unity.
He emphasized that this initiative is part of efforts to reform gang members and urged them to seize this second chance to contribute positively to society.

I’m rather confused, because it seems that these gangs are being given more hope than the innocent hardworking citizens of Antigua & Barbuda.
DOES CRIME NOW PAY?
If not, I now look forward to the pensioners; teachers; public sector and other workers having their work related issues (I.e, health and safety, working conditions and equipment etc) and owed wages resolved as quickly as well.

The ideology of gangs has never been about peace. why would anyone of a moral turpitude even consider these gangs to be anything but trouble?
The “civil society” has been put aside for the ambitions of gang members…what a thing. 😂
How dumb can we get?
In as much as I applaud the effort of the PM to intervene to curb the source of the crime wave, am skeptical and here is why:
1. Is it reasonable to think that the gangs will instantly abandon their raison d’etre and become productive citizens without parental control and God, overnight?
2. Why is the PM the voice of the gangs? Maybe I missed it, but as far as I am aware gangs usually have leaders so why do we not hear the declaration of a truce from the gang leaders’ themselves? To me hearing the gangs themselves agree to a truce in their own voice would have been more credible.
2. The last time I checked, gangs are not formed as a force for good, so what happens after the truce is declared and the football match ends? Will the gangs disband? Should we be so naive as to be lulled into thinking that the reasons for gang behaviour will disappear overnight?
Forgive me, but until I see the gangs disbanded, I will not be convinced that we have permanently fixed our youth crime issues.
Hang them all on market street. That should stop the crime.
This is what we need,God forbid if this meeting didn’t happen there was going to be a big generation gap.A big loss for our country,both parties just need to stand by their words including the government as well.
Let us truly hope for the best. We honestly don’t need the kind of violence we experienced over the past years. A man and his son died during carnival. Others injured along the way. Antigua is too small to be experiencing this. Kudos to you PM. You are a brave heart.
Remember Saul who turned Paul in the Bible was killing God’s people and he had a right about turn in his life. So you see everyone should have a second chance in life so let us pray the youngsters embrace that chance to make a change and to be better citizens of our beautiful country give them a chance please? Will the losing team be satisfied with 5heir loss, or will the seek retribution after? If GB knew the relevant parties to call for this event, why do we act like we don’t know who to contact when certain crimes are committed? I’m not sure why we only seeking a truce and not accountability and dissolution.

After the match what? They go back to hanging on the corner? These kids need more than a football match to solve their problems. Broken homes; unemployment, and uneducated people don’t bode well for any society.
