Gallons of scarce water being wasted due to old broken pipes

The Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda says it will move ahead with its plans to replace leaky, old pipes throughout the City of St. John’s.

The plans is to undertake this water-saving measure before the repaving of the City’s streets gets underway.

The minister responsible for APUA says almost 2,000,000 gallons of potable water leak from broken pipes daily.

“Wastage of precious water cannot be allowed to continue,” the Cabinet agreed.

“The replacement of the old water pipes, estimated at a few million dollars, will be undertaken virtually simultaneously with the repaving of the road surfaces,” it added.

New sewerage pipes and conduits for electricity and telephones, in the heart of the City, will also be undertaken.
