Further gang war and retaliation averted as Prime Minister Gaston Browne meets with second organized gang

Following on the heels of the meeting with the 2Drilly gang, Prime Minister the Hon. Gaston Browne met last evening, at Perry Bay with several members of the Grays Farm Killers (GFK) gang.

“The meeting was very productive, with a focus on strategies for rehabilitation, to include the provision of employment and skills building,” according to Prime Minister Browne.

The Grays Farm Killers members thanked the Prime Minister for the interventions, which have averted further planned gang warfare and violent retaliations between the gangs.

The members, whom Prime Minister Browne described as primarily teenagers of various age ranges, expressed a desire to call a truce between warring gangs which should lead to lasting peace.

The groups have agreed to meet with other gang members on Thursday at the Villa Community Centre in a show of cessation of hostilities.

An individual who attended the meeting remarked that the Hon. Prime Minister was visibly shaken by the injuries of some of the members to include stab wounds about the face, neck, back, nose, forehead and chops about the head, forehand and hands, which limited the arm’s mobility.

Prime Minister Browne remarked that there were a number of cold chilling revelations from members of the group with some speaking of their near death experiences.

“I am very happy that I followed my intuition to engage them, because it was obvious that these young men needed our help; were yearning for someone to reach out to them. As a society, we have failed them to some extent by not reaching out sooner,” Prime Minister said

“In addition to the serious injuries they suffered, several of them dropped out of school at the age of 14 or 15 because of fear of retaliation.   The focus is to enroll them in the  YEEP, second chance program and ABICE to assist with their skills building,” he said.

Prime Minister also announced that in addition to the truce meeting on Thursday, the gang members will meet on the weekend for a football friendly at Turf on Factory Road, with the aim to rekindle friendships.

Follow-up meetings and other initiatives to aid in their development and reform are being finalized.

Prime Minister Browne  commended Min Daryl Matthew, and all the others including community leaders like Michael Joseph, Luther Lee,  King Sagifu, High Priest Selah and Mitch Jeremiah, for supporting this initiative and for encouraging the youth to engage in positive development.

  1. Best Prime Minister ever. Not too proud to meet with the downtrodden in the society. He shows he is the Prime Minister for ALL. Rich and Poor, Abled and Disabled. God Bless our leader, the Honorable Dr. Gaston Aphonso Browne. a.k.a World Boss. May everything you touch be blessed. And may all things work together for our good. Whom God Bless let no man curse.

  2. Great… Now find the persons responsible for the recent brutal murder of 15 year old Achazia James and hold them responsible. She deserves justice.

  3. @ Less We Forget

And that and he is the reason why every dam thing in Antigua is cursed, because of the total sins of the ABLP and its ministers and leader………have you ever read the scripture that says ”crime increases when criminals are in power”……..go figure!!!

I need not to refresh your memory. But crime in the period 2004 through 2014 was at an all time high. We had the highest murder rate during the UPP time and women were raped in their own house. But sad for you to bring up bad memories as an old lady friend of mine was raped in her house, and today the woman is mentally ill. And needs psychiatric treatment. All the will to live was taken from her. She is just breathing. Not living.
If you compare crime rates by year and region we are the lowest. And yes we have an increase in robberies and murders but we are still at the low end compared to our Neighbours. Especially St. Kitts and Nevis. St. Kitts has 19 murders as of July. And per 100K we are definitely the lowest.
But what do you care about the truth. You are here to spread lies and deceit.

  5. @ Less We Forget

You have to either be Gaston Clown or his stooge. I have never experienced so much crime and criminal activities in Antigua, you wanna know why:
    – Poverty, Antigua has the highest poverty rate of the OECS countries. TINGS BAD LIKE HELL HERE
-Neglect, the neglect shown by this government of poor mis-management of funds and hence a crumbling infrastructure
    – low self-esteem, most young people in this country feel worthless, just like you useful idiots
-alcohol and drug abuse with the government putting party politics before the welfare of young people by legalising the use of marijuana. The horse has already bolted. You and your party are a bunch of reactive whacks and are clueless when it comes to solving societal problems. All you do is cheat and steal and enrich, and thats quoted by the way.
Why do you think there is so much crime, because the ABLP does it openly with impunity. So what you expect the up and coming ones to do but copy the ‘World Boss’- if only you knew the negative connotations this name has.
    DIS COUNTY YA DONE

  6. Our gangs are just a bunch of want to be youths who watch some YouTube videos and want to try something. No hard core gang gonna sit and listen to PM, unless they have big demands like stop harassing us or else, or maybe they are registered voters and big on politics. Fish farm! They may as well move to the hills, natty up them head, grow some weed along with other vegetables and form a new tribe of their own (The Bush Posse) so long as they stop all this violence. Am sure the PM would agree to that and assist them in what ever way possible. Growing up, our want to be gang was The Sugar hill gang so we use to walked around with our big radios and hip pe de hop to the beat.

  7. find the choppers who brutally butchered that likkle gyal to death, dem choppers need to spend some time for that, they can strike again, they had a taste of taking life, they can strike again.

  8. Fellow citizens of Antigua & Barbuda if you want to know why the country has been on an economic spiral downwards and an upward crime wave over the two terms of Gaston Browne’s tutelage; it’s because of conniving deviants and devoted Gastonites – and there’s many of them – like @ Less We Forget [He😁], when he stomach churning says:

He’s the “Best Prime Minister ever…” WHAT!!!

WHAT A DELUSIONAL PERSON HE IS.

If any of you can get hold of a dictionary, please look up cognitive dissonance and it’ll explain why Browne will eventually become the DICTATOR of Antigua & Barbuda.

    WE’VE BEEN WARNED …

  9. … Furthermore, Gastonites enjoy political “cherry-picking”, totally ignoring those who are suffering and struggling due to Browne’s terrible economic policies and lack of crime prevention.

They love to pick and choose, that’s all they’ve got

  10. @ Brixtonian

Well said my friend. This stupid ”Less We Forget” need to be put in his place.
I think it is Gaston himself, because no sane person in this country would ascribe so much praise to he who has destroyed ”my island in the sun”. Bunch of useless idiots.

The 2023/2024 Human Development Report (HDR) from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) ranks several Caribbean countries highly in terms of human development:

St. Kitts and Nevis: Ranked 51st in the world, and first in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). In 2023, it had an HDI index of 0.838, which was an improvement from 2021.

Antigua and Barbuda: Ranked 54th in the world, and in the “very high” category of the HDI.

Trinidad and Tobago: Ranked 60th in the world.

The Bahamas: Ranked 57th in the world.

Barbados: Ranked 62nd in the world.

The HDI is a summary index that assesses a country’s human development in three areas: health, education, and standard of living. The index is a value between 0 and 1, with countries grouped into four categories based on their HDI value.

Sometime I really don’t know why I bother with you guys. Because you deliberately try to mislead the people who are not as independent as me to quickly do my own research. But I just cannot let things go. I mean how often to we have to publish economic figures that Antigua and Barbuda is the fasted growing economy in the Caribbean and South America except for Guyana. And still you guys will claim Antigua and Barbuda things are bad. I mean does lying makes you feel so good. And lying of stupid things that anyone can fact check on the internet any time. We have one of the highest human development index in the Caribbean. Right behind St. Kitts and Nevis. Our Caribbean Brother and Sister flock to this country to live because of their changes of making a much better life then in their own country. Guys spare me the effort and lie about something else, not the economy. You look and sound stupid.

  12. @ Less We Forget

Do not preach to me about statistics and ”fastest” growing. Statistics mean crap and that has been your dam mantra throughout the ten years you have been in power- always quoting some dam statistic.
Go and ask the ordinary man on the street about life in this forlorn country. Suppliers of the government cannot even be paid. Garbage is not collected. Every minute workers are on strike, not just for money, but the environment of their work place and working conditions because the government does not have the money for the upkeep of its premises!
Talk about the ever rising cost of food in this country that has EVERYONE complaining (apart from you, your children and woman dem), drainage have not been cleaned, the grass at the side of the road, the filth of the gutter- so you think statistics can feed me or the hungry belly people in this country. They do not mean a thing. Oh such a powerhouse that cannot even afford to fix the roads, even after collecting millions from transport board and consumption tax. Ask anyone in this country if they are happy (apart from the minions and turn coats) and I can guarantee you that over 70% of us are not!
I can tell you with all the uproar y’all caused in the UPP by buying out Anthony ‘the treacherous’ Smith y’all will not win the next election UNLESS AGAIN Y’ALL steal it like all the others. U have no idea how people want that dog gone.

  13. @ pity “I think it could be Gaston himself …”

Heheheeee 🤣🤣🤣, that tickled me @ pity, you might be onto something there – and I wouldn’t put it pass he 🥸…

    Enjoy your week 👍🏾

  14. There would be no more crimes. The gangs have met with their leader. If there are anymore crimes. We the people cannot blame the gangs.

  15. NEVER LET A GOOD CRISIS GO TO WASTE!

The burnout is coming. These are not the gangs which are controlling the black market, the counterfeit market, smuggling, human trafficking, fraud gangs. These are the fuel which are still feeding the fire under the crime pot.
It’s good, that a lid is being put on [crime] pot, and hopefully, the government has endless funding to keep up with these measures because, the #rhizome_effect of criminality has already taken roots!

Gaston is simply not letting a good crisis go to waste.

  16. Wow @ ask barbudans, each and every day the cries of ordinary Antigua & Barbuda citizens continues to highlight their woes and suffering.

You’ve perfectly explained the plight of many.

@ Less We Forget/or From The Sideline is a political SHILL that has no empathy for hardworking Antiguans.

He’s a downright nasty egotistical individual who thrives on misleading ANR readers as much as he can muster.

Many have even suggested that this man is a fully paid-up ABLP member, because he’s always quoting government figures (this isn’t normal for a blogger).

Maybe he’s the Prime Minister himself! 🤣
