The reopening of the Boys’ Training School has been delayed once again, with the government yet to confirm a new timeline for its completion.
Despite previous assurances that the facility would be operational by January, setbacks related to procurement, particularly in securing furniture and other essential resources, have stalled progress.
During the post-cabinet media briefing, Chief of Staff Lionel Hurst acknowledged the delay but did not provide a definitive date for reopening.
“There was no discussion on the Boys’ Training School yesterday, but the expectation is that it should be operational within a short period of time—within a matter of weeks,” Hurst said.
The facility is intended to provide rehabilitation and skills training for troubled youth, offering structured programs aimed at reintegration into society. However, repeated postponements have raised concerns about the government’s ability to finalize the project.
Hurst indicated that further updates may be provided at the next cabinet meeting.

I’m not surprise that there is a delay.
It’s disappointing that the reopening of the Boys’ Training School is delayed again. These young people need support and structure, and it’s crucial that this facility gets up and running soon.
The government must ensure this isn’t just another postponed promise.
