A number of sporting bodies in Antigua are staging a cricket match to raise funds for two Antiguan football officials who are currently facing drug charges in Jamaica.

Assistant coach of the Antigua & Barbuda national football team Derrick Edwards, 49, popularly known as “Pretty Boy” in his native land, along with equipment coordinator Danny Benjamin, were arrested as they and members of the football squad prepared to leave the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston on Monday, March 26 following a 1-1 draw with Jamaica’s the Reggae Boyz.

Both were taken into custody by the police after a backpack containing two rectangular packages of approximately 3.6 pounds of ganja was reportedly found in a false compartment of a checked luggage.

The remaining members of the touring squad left the island, however, Edwards and Benjamin were later questioned and charged with possession of ganja, dealing in ganja, taking steps to export ganja, and conspiracy.
It was subsequently reported by the Jamaica Observer that Edwards might have been set up.

  2. As an Antiguan I will never show any support for these two individuals. I do hope that the law abiding people of Antigua and Barbuda do not extend their support. They deserve exactly what they are receiving, they did the crime so let them pay the time . maybe next time they will learn to obey and respect the laws of any country.

    • Do you know that they could have been setup, do you know Anyone could have put it in the bags whether another Antiguan player of someone from jamaica, Do you know there is something called innocent until proven guilty?
