Campbell Jackson, 67, of Green Bay Hill died on the spot last night, after a shooting which also left his son and another man nursing gunshot wounds at the Mount St. John’s Medical Centre.
The car rental company owner was sitting outside his home with a group of men when according to reports a shooter or shooters appeared and opened fire on them.
“Sleep me dey ah sleep,” a woman said “then me hear the shots.”
The senior citizen was pronounced dead by a medical doctor about 11p.m. on Thursday night. His son Jahri Jackson aka Cuban received a gunshot wound to his left and was taken to hospital in a private vehicle.
The other injured individual is Tevin George who was with the father and son at the time of the shooting.
Both men are in a stable condition in hospital.
Neighbours told Antigua News Room that the deceased was a “cool guy” who did his best to help young people in the community.
While Jackson fathered several children of his own, he is also said to have unofficially adopted several others.
“He’s like my father and I feel it (the pain),” one of his adopted sons told ANR.
“Me ya a cry. He was a very peaceful man, kind and everything” the man added.
Hundreds of people from Green Bay and Gray’s Farm converged on the scene, as lawmen used cellphone lights to look for evidence on the poorly lit street. Two hours later the area was cordoned off as investigations continue.
Twenty-four hours earlier, a lone masked gunman fired a single shot at a woman and a man in a car, in close proximity to where the killing occurred.
Lawmen say they have not been able to confirm whether the two incidents are connected.
Despite this latest killing, the murder rate remains a handful so far for the year. In February 38-year-old Almack Lambert of Nut Grove was shot and later died in hospital. Two men have been charged with the murder.
Last month, lawmen charged Mikhail Gomes for killing his ex-girlfriend Vincia James, who is still missing.
Also missing is since March is Charlesworth Frankly Richards whose house was found with blood stains in it.
The body of Shawn Henry was found in St. John’s in May but lawmen have ruled this a suspicious death as investigations continue.
Other individuals were charged this year for killing which occurred in previous years.
