Senator Michael Freeland has hailed a historic achievement by the Leeward Islands Stormers Women, congratulating the team on capturing their first-ever Cricket West Indies Women’s T20 Blaze title.
In a statement shared on social media, Freeland praised Shawnisha Hector of New Winthorpes, team captain Amanda Edwards of Pigotts, and the full Stormers squad for what he described as a monumental moment for Leeward Islands cricket.
The Stormers secured the championship with a six-run victory over Barbados in a rain-affected final, defending a total of 111 for six. The match was decided under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method following an interruption.
Hector delivered a standout performance, scoring 58 runs to anchor the innings. Her efforts earned her multiple accolades, including Player of the Match, Most Valuable Player of the Tournament, Best All-Rounder, and Best Batter.

Freeland said the team’s success demonstrated grit, discipline, and composure under pressure, adding that their achievement would inspire the next generation of female cricketers across Antigua and Barbuda and the wider Leeward Islands.
