Residents across Antigua and Barbuda can look forward to an extra 500,000 gallons of potable water being added to the everyday supply of 7 million gallons following the commissioning of the new reverse osmosis plant at Fort James Beach.
Observer media did a walk through of the facility on Friday along with Minister of Public Utilities Sir Robin Yearwood and other top officials in the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) Water Department.
Although the civil work at the plant has not yet been fully completed along with the construction of the two main water storage units, operations at the plant are already up and running with villagers in the surrounding communities of Villa, Yorks, Fort Road, McKinnons, Point and other areas expected to be receiving water daily.
For those who may not have been getting water over the past few days, APUA’s Water Business Unit’s Manager, Ian Lewis explained that the plant had been off — due to a maintenance issue — but it is now back up and pumping water.

Lewis further explained that although the two water storage units are not yet finished, technicians have set up a temporary solution, as a smaller tank is being used until the two units are complete.
When those tanks are completed, they are each expected to hold over 200,000 gallons of purified water.
Antigua and Barbuda’s long-standing inadequate supply of running water has been well documented, and many residents will be hoping the new facility will improve the situation.
In fact, Minister Yearwood expressed his delight over the plant, adding that there is still some more work to be done to address the water issue in the country.-OBSERVER

Enough of the bull shit. Every day is some excuse and double talk. Where the hell is the election water?
This is good news. On another note P
“Prime Minister Mia Motley Friday announced that Barbados would be seeking a new loan agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) this month, telling Barbadians “these are indeed rough waters”.
However in Antigua there is this clown #HFWL making all sort of promises to try and get elected when he knows fiscally they can’t work.
@ Just saying. how much is the IMF interest rate. If you read closely it is 1 per cent.
So far Gaston has had over 86 loans and the interest rate is much higher.
Defend that
Progress. When you hold elected officials to do what they are elected to do. Progress, can be delivered to the community.
You’re getting there ABLP. Congratulations! UPP will finish the job that you had EIGHT LONG YEARS to address.
Don’t forget to tackle the distribution network. That is the key to making sure what you produce reach the homes and businesses that will rely on this facility.
Build storage capacity and hook up the storage tanks that were put in place prior to 2014. Government is continuous.
Stop the BAD MINDEDNESS.
We did not feel the benefit of the 2 million more gallons promised by June 1.
We are not feeling the benefit of a half million more gallons.
There are serious problems in the distribution or other areas.
Robin year wood and Gaston Browne refuse to tell the truth.
They failed to address the pipes for 8 years.
They left tanks unconnected for 8 years.
They allowed plans to run down to half capacity and only hurried to fix it when Harold Lovell called them out.
ABLP = FAILURE ON WATER
Vote dem out
Who you trying to fool? Upp was the worst thing that ever happened to Antigua and Barbuda. Harold Lovell was the worst finance minister ever in the history of Antigua and Barbuda….. From 2010 to 2014 Antigua and Barbuda was in the worst position that we’ve ever been‐ our banks were in turmoil, tourism was totally dead the economy on a whole was flat-lining, there was no construction taking place- the car pool in Antigua was turning to that of places like Cuba- people could pay Apua for Electricity nor water …… who the hell UPP trying to fool?
We Were Here
@FRITZ:
Let us look at the facts:
Harold Lovell brought credible investors to Antigua.
Gaston Browne has 26 failed projects and most of his investors are in jailed.
You cannot deny that
Harold Lovell would have brought this country into the top 10 of the Middle Income countries along side countries like Malaysia and Brazil.
Under Gaston Browne, Antigua has become poorer according to the UN agency
You cannot deny that
Harold Lovell is respected in the international arena while Gaston Browne is known for pulling down his pant and showing his bottom to the world.
You have to admit that!
@ Fritz
Let me put you to shame, Forbes Magazine, one of the world’s most recognised and influential financial magazine, said Antigua was poised to be one of the richest nations in the hemisphere just before the 2014 elections!!!
That is a fact YOU NOR YOUR LIARD ABLP MINIONS CAN DENY. FOOL THAT YOU USEFUL IDIOT.
I understand #HFWL and dem #UPPNEARGA are planning to amend their campaign promises. The word WATER is to be removed.
Harold Lovell should start emphasizing the dirty conditions in the country, especially St. John’s and horrible road conditions and just maybe something will be done.
@ Just Saying
Why should they change their campaign slogan.
I DO NOT KNOW WHICH COUNTRY YOU LIVE, CERTAINLY NOT ANTIGUA, UNLESS YOU ALONG WITH THE MINISTERS OF GOVERNMENT TRUCKING AND SELLING WATER TO ENRICH YOURSELVES.
THE WATER SITUATION IS SO DIRE IN THIS COUNTRY, SO WHEEL AND COME AGAIN.
AND EVEN IF, YOU GUYS HAVE BEEN RAPING AND GOVERNING THIS COUNTRY FOR DONKEY’S YEARS. ALL BLAME IS URS
There are now 19 days until … opps! I forgot that last week the Prime Minister admitted he couldn’t deliver on this particular election promise.
3,000 days ago, we heard that the water problem would be solved in 14 days!
Why should we believe a word that you are saying
I’m beginning to understand the fu..ery on the island as an very interested outsider but it seems to me that there are many who are writing many checks for the UPP…
…if the UPP comes into power, I hope they can cash those checks.
@Scott,,.Son of Mami_Wata says to tell you, “yea Sir! You’ll get to understand the #Mob_Style fuckery which oozes out from our culture!”
You have definitely begin to, “Understanding da Fockers!”
@Ras – loved your response, thank you!
Again, I’m still steep in the learning curve…but learning.
I’ll keep hacking at it with you, maybe those of us of like mind can make a better Antigua.
Does this mean I can really have a shower once a day now?
Mr Lewis, I heard u say that once the Fort James plant in operational, the areas of Villa, Point, Upper Fort Road will have water 24×7. Well, they forgot to turn on the water on lower Dickenson Bay Street because we didn’t get any water for 2 straight days now. Makes me wonder if anything will change with the increased capacity
“Although the civil work at the plant has not yet been fully completed along with the construction of the two main water storage units, operations at the plant are already up and running with villagers in the surrounding communities of Villa, Yorks, Fort Road, McKinnons, Point and other areas expected to be receiving water daily.”
Mr Lewis, please define what “receiving water daily” means. Based on the last couple of days, we realise that it does not mean water 24×7 as you claimed in the news. I know what it does not mean because we had no water on Saturday and we got water on Sunday evening – after 5 (and the pressure did not bring water to the shower head). So we still had to bathe in a bucket even though we (technically) had water
