Former police constable Kasroy Simon is on trial for allegedly murdering Nicoma McFarlene, accused of staging the scene to look like suicide.
The incident occurred on February 7, 2019, at McFarlene’s residence in Freemans Village. Simon was charged after an autopsy revealed McFarlene had been strangled, contradicting initial beliefs of suicide.
McFarlene, a Jamaican national, came to Antigua in October 2018 to support her mother’s surgery on February 27, 2019. Upon returning from work on February 7, McFarlene’s mother found her with cuts on her wrist.
Despite efforts to save her, McFarlene was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Simon and McFarlene were reportedly close friends until McFarlene rejected his advances, leading to a strained relationship.
Simon’s trial, which began weeks ago, has included testimony from about a dozen witnesses, with more expected to testify in the coming weeks.
