Leroy King, former head of Antigua and Barbuda’s Financial Services Regulatory Commission (FSRC), has died while serving a U.S. prison sentence. He was 80.
It remains unclear whether King died in prison or at a hospital, but authorities confirmed his death occurred during his incarceration.
King, a dual citizen of Antigua and the United States, was extradited to the U.S. in 2019 after nearly a decade of fighting extradition. He later pleaded guilty to conspiracy to obstruct justice and obstruction of justice for helping conceal information from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) during its probe into financier Allen Stanford’s $7 billion investment fraud.
As FSRC chief from 2002, King oversaw Stanford International Bank’s operations in Antigua. Prosecutors said he accepted more than US $520,000 in bribes, gifts, and trips in exchange for shielding Stanford’s activities.
Stanford was convicted in 2012 and sentenced to 110 years in prison for running a massive Ponzi scheme. Several others received prison terms ranging from three to 20 years.

Condolences…The guy spent many years of living lavish comfortable life with top line jobs but due to greed and corruption he spent the last 15 years with loads of stress…Life it don’t come with a manual booklet we just have to try our best….RIP…..
I knew Mr Leroy King very well when I worked at Corporate Antigua. My association and contact with him was always pleasant, cordial and friendly. He was soft spoken but very articulate, expressive, coherent and mannerly. I am saddened to learn of his passing. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and former colleagues.
My condolences to his family and friends. But just the other day I mentioned his name as one that is now rotting in an American jail. And for what? Our people should never ever be extradited to America for non-violence crimes. He was not charged for any crime in this country, so why extradite him to the USA. You will never get a fair trial in the USA. You are especially when BLACK, GUILTY AS CHARGE. Make no mistake. Their system is nothing but fair. They will not even grant you appeal to the Supreme Court. Not like in our sysytem where everyone is almost certain of being granted appeal as long as they can pay for it. We need to revisit our extradition laws. Americans do not extrodite their citizens either, so why should we. I’m glad Jack Warner won his extradition case.
Sorry to hear how Leroy ended, we went to school together and were good friends before he migrated. He once told me “You Can’t Fight City Hall” and tet he still tried. Rest In Peace Bro.
RIP Mr King, let this be a warning to these captured civil servants who follow politicians in corruption what can happen at the end of your career, am not saying america must be judge and jury and infantilized black people, but the system here is a state capture so no justice or actions against wrong doing.
$520k payments from a $7B ponzi scheme? I am afraid Mr. King was not as brilliant as he may have been perceived.
RIP MR. KING! Condolences to his family! Where as those who are talking about your wrong doings! I just pray you got a chance to repent of all your sins and accept Christ Jesus as your Lord and Saviour! Politics and the ills of this world are useless at this point!
Lee was a very close friend and a mentor. He made a grave mistake in the actions he took on Stanford’s behalf. Quite a few of us in his inner circle were very disappointed when we learned of his actions. However, we still remember him as a great friend, humanitarian, and a community stalwart! Rest in peace my friend!! 🙏💕
He died while serving jail.time. in a foreign land..not even close to family and friends. Boy money can cause us to go down in a bad way
Hope he at least gave his life to christ while in prison
America wicked bad..they haunted that man for 10 years and came to get him half dead. Just the same way India is doing to choksi
Mama always say when you see people jumping high, do not try to jump high as them or higher, because you do not what is under them pushing them that high..
It is sad that King died while serving jail time. May his soul RIP ,
@ Audley Phillip,
No doubt you knew him but not as well as you thought you did.
I can say this now, since he has passed.
I recall him telling me and others that Charles Cox, Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission had met him a financial conference in New York.
He King was asked about Stanford Bank operations in Antigua and he blew off Cox on the basis that it was against the laws of Antigua and Barbuda to disclose anything he knew about companies operating under The Financial Services Regulatory Commission (FSRC
I believe it was among the moments when the US decided like Stanford Leroy Jose King will die incarcerated.
There is a lot more I can tell; but let the dead lay in peace.
RIP. Never nice to die in prison
Condolences to his family at that age you should be home enjoying your grandkids
