A 15-year-old student accused of bringing a firearm to Clare Hall Secondary School has been cleared of all charges following a decision by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The teen was initially charged with using a firearm in furtherance of an offence, later amended to an attempted offence. However, the DPP’s office determined that the evidence was insufficient to support the charge, particularly as no weapon was recovered.

The charge was withdrawn, and the case dismissed by the Child Justice Board.

Attorney Peyton Knight, representing the student, welcomed the outcome, calling the case a miscarriage of justice.

He criticized the police for their handling of the matter and suggested they knew the firearm’s whereabouts. Knight is considering legal action against the Commissioner of Police.

The student, who was on remand before securing bail, remains entangled in another legal battle.

His mother is challenging his expulsion from the public school system, with mediation set for April.

  1. While it’s good news that the student has been cleared, the circumstances surrounding the case raise questions about the police investigation.

If the DPP found the evidence insufficient, why was the student charged in the first place?

This warrants further scrutiny to prevent potential injustices in the future.

  2. This was such a bungled case from the onset that no other conclusion or outcome was expected. In their rush to judgment the police really made a mess of the case charging the child for a gun when none was ever found. The child and his mother have every right to expect him to be reinstated in school after the case was dismissed for lack of evidence. The police prosecution has some work to do in fine-tuning and tweeking their prosecutorial skills.

  3. This is what happens when police gives into public pressure and do shitty investigations. It always ends up like this a big embarrassment coming from public who wanted the kid to be in jail in the first place. When I read the comments of people blaming the police calling them incompetent which they actually are I have to laugh my butt off because weren’t you the same ones who found the boy guilty in the court of public opinion. If I was the boy family when I’m done with the government of Antigua and Barbuda, the police force, the ministry of education and Clare Hall Secondary School I would live like a king off several persons pensions.

  4. How you go to school with a gun and scare your classmates, teachers and all and sundry and charges dropped? Ok so it was your brother or cousin gun who just happened to be a police officer but did it make it right to take it? And come to school? Education officials had to leave their work that day and come to attend to your messy vibes and you walk home just like that? Anyway this system is so flawed. God forbid some other sick thinking kid does this.

  5. This particular incident raises the question of preparedness the education ministry was not prepared for a situation such as this. As usual we wait for something to happen then we react and blunder most of the time.

  6. The Office of the DPP and indeed the DPP him/her self need internal cleansing! As for that nutritional salivating on living off the pensions of government officials, the police force, Clare Hall Secondary Staff, if you could live like a king off other people’s money and under therse circumstances then I could pray for you. The bungling of the case, from beginning to end was indeed a miscarriage of justice for the scores of students who SAW THE STUDENT WITH THE GUN and for those, especially younger students, traumatized by the ordeal. Continue to salute the lawbreaker.. Let him know that it is a praiseworthy thing to commit crime just as long as you don’t get caught! Shame on all of you!

  9. @Faithful National #1 if that was the case then answer why was the case dismissed for lack OF EVIDENCE!!!!! Courts don’t run off of hear say and what was reported in the media but off of EVIDENCE!!!! There is no proof the boy had a gun. They never found a gun!!!!! Even after searching his home. Wanna talk about traumatized just how traumatized was this boy while he was on remand before securing bail. Just image how much trauma he will have to deal with because judgmental assholes like you casing judgment with no proof!!! I hope the boy family sues the government of Antigua and Barbuda the police force the ministry of education Clare Hall Secondary school and you Faithful National and live like a king from ya pension
