Foreign Minister Urges Compliance Amid Tougher U.S. Immigration Rules
Antigua and Barbuda’s Foreign Minister E.P. Chet Greene has urged citizens to respect U.S. immigration laws following recent policy changes by the United States government.
The U.S. has announced stricter enforcement targeting those who enter illegally or overstay their visas, warning of increased arrests, deportations, and future travel bans.
Minister Greene reassured that most Antiguans and Barbudans travel to the U.S. for legitimate reasons and will remain welcome if they follow visa rules. However, he cautioned against attempts to stay illegally for purposes such as childbirth or long-term residence.
“To those who believe they can extend their stay by illegal means… I urge you to reconsider,” Greene stated.
He stressed that Antigua and Barbuda cannot shield individuals who break U.S. laws, adding, “We are committed to protecting the reputation of our citizens who travel lawfully.”
Greene also underscored the importance of mutual respect in the longstanding partnership between both countries, calling on citizens to act with integrity and avoid actions that could damage their standing abroad.
