PM Warns Disrespectful Foreign Managers Could Face Deportation

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has warned that foreign hotel managers and expatriate workers accused of mistreating or exploiting locals could be deported if credible complaints are brought before the government.

Speaking on the Browne and Browne Show on Saturday, Browne said his administration will not tolerate what he described as disrespectful behavior toward Antiguans and Barbudans by non-nationals employed in the hospitality sector or other industries.

“When you come here as our guest, you have to treat our people with respect,” Browne said, adding that any credible information about misconduct would be investigated and could result in deportation.

He said the warning applies to cases involving sexual exploitation, workplace mistreatment or other forms of abuse. At the same time, the prime minister urged local workers to treat their supervisors with respect, regardless of nationality.

Browne stressed that Antigua and Barbuda remains open to foreign investment and skilled expatriate workers but said national sovereignty and the dignity of citizens must be protected.

The comments form part of a broader push by the Cabinet to ensure that economic growth benefits locals and that workplace standards are upheld across sectors.
