— A group of labourers who worked at last year’s Food Fair say they are still waiting to be paid, despite public assurances that outstanding wages would be settled.

In a letter dated the 8th and sent to Antigua News Room, one of the affected workers said payments remain outstanding for work carried out during the Food Fair held on November 3.

The worker said a subsequent government article indicated that payments would be made “by Friday,” which many of the labourers interpreted as Friday the 13th. However, they say no payments have been received.

“We respect freedom of speech and believe it is our right to speak openly about issues that affect us,” the letter stated. “It is not right for statements to be made to the public suggesting that matters have been resolved when they have not.”

The labourers said workers depend on their earnings and called for greater transparency and accountability in the handling of the matter.

“We, the Food Fair labourers, are still waiting to be paid what is owed to us,” the letter added.

There has been no immediate update from officials regarding the outstanding payments.

  1. I can never understand why year after year, we continue to have payment issues after every major event put forward by this government. In the budget speech, money was allocated to every ministry, so you would figure Hon Daryl would have put aside a portion just for these two major events, which we know is a must happen every year i.e carnival and independence, but NO!
PM Browne now taking it upon himself to purchase stage, and sound system, instead of first demand that Withney and Stonewall improve their overall standard of operation, or even encourage anyone with such technical mind to step forward and invest, possibly lending a hand as a government, instead of cutting into the little man dream. He even went as far as threatening their dress code. Mr PM I guess you’ve been sleeping, cause this has been the wardrobe for our young men for years, you should have notice that when you met with your young gangs members, or by even walking around your own constituency, keep in mind that our young females, also have their own dress code.

  2. This Administration is really led by the greatest CHARLATAN that ever lived. He keeps tell us the economy is doing so well and people are still complaining of not getting paid for months after they work. Bet it will be blamed on some hick up in the system. You too bad minded jack
