Flight Attendant Hurt as Gunfire Damages Spirit Airlines Flight to Haiti

4

On Monday, gunfire struck a Spirit Airlines flight en route to Haiti, injuring a flight attendant. The flight from Fort Lauderdale to Port-au-Prince was diverted to the Dominican Republic, where an inspection revealed damage consistent with gunfire. Spirit confirmed that the flight attendant sustained minor injuries, but no passengers were hurt.

In response, Spirit has suspended all flights to Haiti for further evaluation and temporarily grounded the affected plane. Arrangements are being made to return both crew and passengers to Florida.

American Airlines also announced it is halting its Miami-Port-au-Prince flights, while JetBlue warned of possible disruptions due to ongoing civil unrest in Haiti. The airline is waiving cancellation fees for affected travelers.

The U.S. State Department issued a warning, citing gang-led efforts to disrupt travel to Haiti and noting a temporary halt in airport operations in Port-au-Prince.

  1. Wow, it’s really alarming to hear that gunfire hit a Spirit Airlines flight going to Haiti and injured a flight attendant.

It’s a real wake-up call about how dangerous things can be in places with civil unrest. Thankfully, no passengers were hurt, but it definitely makes you think twice about traveling there.

It’s good that Spirit is taking action by suspending flights and grounding the plane, but it’s concerning that American Airlines and JetBlue are also stopping their flights. Travelers should feel safe when they fly, and it’s clear that the situation in Haiti needs to be addressed quickly. Let’s hope things get better soon for everyone involved.

  2. The airline companies are all making the best decisions in the mean time. That country called haiti needs prayers.

  3. @junella: I can hear the neoliberal media dictating from CNN portrayal of Haiti in your expression, it is the prayer from the colonial prospective that is condemning them, you don’t believe they need justice in order to enjoy their independence they fought for, they are intelligent people reacting to white hegemony domination, but since god was colonized by the white slave master and then fed to you in a colonized church and Christianity, your brains has been harvested to forgive whiteness and accede to their wishes and condem any aspirations that black people have as for example Haiti needs to be free to enjoy it independence it fought for and won.

  4. @Eldread. I don’t know you, but thank you very much for that reply. It seems as if Haiti will forever be paying for their audacity, having fought for their independence. Are they still paying France? Is Merrikka returned all their stolen gold after their invasion. Gunfire? Where are the guns coming from? And as usual, it will be the black man who will criticize and condemn their own.
