Flash Flood Advisory Issued for Antigua as Heavy Rains Continue

The Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Service has issued a flash flood advisory for Antigua, warning of possible flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas as rainbands from Tropical Storm Jerry continue to drench the island.

The advisory, issued at noon Friday, remains in effect until 4 p.m. Forecaster Lenard Josiah reported that up to nine inches of rain have fallen in parts of the island over the past 12 hours, with additional rainfall expected this afternoon.

While flooding is not expected to be life-threatening, officials are urging caution as streams, drains, and roads may overflow. Residents are advised to avoid flooded areas and remember the safety warning: “Turn around, don’t drown — just one foot of flowing water can sweep your vehicle away.”

Authorities say conditions may worsen, and the advisory could be upgraded to a flood warning at short notice.
For updates, residents are encouraged to monitor local media or call the Met Office at 463-4638.
