Flash Flood Advisory Issued for Antigua

The Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Service has placed Antigua under a Flash Flood Advisory following heavy rainfall from a tropical wave moving across the region.

The advisory, issued at 9:14 a.m. today and valid until midday, warns of minor flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Forecasters report that over an inch of rain has already fallen in parts of the island within the past hour, with the possibility of another inch or more in the next 12 hours.

Officials caution that residents should expect elevated streams and drains, flooding on roads, and water overflow into vulnerable communities. While the flooding is not considered life-threatening, the public is being urged to exercise caution.

Motorists are advised not to drive through flooded roads or attempt to cross flowing water. “Turn Around, Don’t Drown,” the advisory states, urging residents to move to higher ground if necessary.

The Met Office has encouraged the public to stay tuned to local radio, television, and its social media pages for further updates.
