The Deputy Chief Fisheries Officer, Dr. Tricia Lovell, has reassured residents that the venomous box jellyfish, found in the Indo-Pacific and Northern Australia, does not inhabit Antigua’s waters.
Her statement follows a recent incident where a swimmer at Pigeon Point experienced symptoms such as back pain, sweating, tremors, high blood pressure, and breathing difficulty after a jellyfish sting.
While not disputing the sting, Dr. Lovell clarified that various marine organisms, including the Portuguese Man of War and other jellyfish species, can cause similar reactions.
