Government Plans Demolition of Unsafe Derelict Homes After 28-Day Notices, PM Says
Prime Minister Gaston Browne says the government has issued 28-day notices for the demolition of several unsafe and abandoned homes as part of a wider national clean-up initiative.
Speaking on the Browne and Browne Show, Browne said the notices have already gone out to homeowners. “We have given notice for a number of homes… I think it’s 28 days. You’re going to see us breaking down a ton of these… homes.”
The prime minister said the effort forms part of ongoing beautification and environmental enforcement measures, which include removing derelict vehicles, clearing abandoned structures, and targeting illegal dumping in several communities.

The demolition programme is expected to focus on homes considered structurally unsafe, long-abandoned, or used for illegal dumping and squatting. Browne did not specify the locations but said the initiative will continue as part of the government’s push to restore neighbourhoods and address public health risks.
The timeline for the first demolitions will depend on when the 28-day notices expire.

This government is killing themselves to make antigua look like Canada because the king is coming to antigua next year with guest, but we all must remember it’s the same royal family have us living the way we’re today…….Still in slavery, they need to pay us back the money they stole from us……….Gaston will never call election until after the kings visit,he wants to be the prime minister of the country when the king arrives in Antigua next year……..Owl fool
Antigua should totally try to look like Canada. They are not to followed in some things but their organisation of neighbourhoods, water and transportation systems are good examples for other countries. We could learn something from them but still keep our own unique look and good parts of our culture.
@Poor Antigua AG – What do you mean by killing themselves to make Antigua look like Canada? That is what you take away from government trying to clean up this dirty place? I guess when you look around it pleases you to see all the old cars around, also houses that have been there since Noah’s mother gave birth to, him with trees growing out of them. It sounds as if you’re saying we should leave them to be an eye sore. Y’all to conconsah. Damn if you do, and still damn if you don’t. Too much hypocrisy.
These abandoned structures should be preserved. They should not be placed in the same categories as abandoned vehicles and trash dumps.
The Dockyard was abandoned just like these derelict structures until a few Foriegn sailors discovered this gem now a UNESCO major historical treasure.
These structures are our history and our heritage. Once they are destroyed and not restored we would have demonstrated a lack of appreciation and the value of preserving OUR HISTORY and our HERITAGE.
Throughout the world small historical structures play an important role in tourism.
The Anglican Church at Barnabus Hill is a must stop on the touring circuit to Dockyard.
The restoration of the Dockyard has created economic value never imagined.
These structures if restored with the help and quality of professionals that are restoring the old St.Johns Courthouse; now the museum could be help to diversify the visitors experiences.
It’s our history and our culture … preserve and restore them DON’T DiSTROY THEM.
More government expenditure wasted.
We all know the money is on the lands and not the houses, so what you should have done GB, is to fine everyone that break the environmental ordinances, and make them clean up their own mess.
More money coming into the peoples Treasury, and not going out.
These people are laughing at you.. 😂
@ FC …. “houses that have been there since Noah’s mother gave birth”
A statement that evidence the shallowness of most who would allow these houses to be demolished.
That statement was hilarious “houses that have been there since Noah’s mother gave birth”! lol
I support the removal. We don’t need to preserve every single thing from the past. Just select one or two very good well kept specimens. People of the present need spaces to live and do business right here right now.
