A community in Antigua is demanding answers after an 18-year-old was shot and killed by police in Bolands on the night of his birthday, in what relatives and neighbours are describing as an “execution-style” killing.

Police said they were responding to a report that the teenager, Khalil Simon, was armed.

But eyewitnesses and family members insist he was given no opportunity to surrender before a single officer opened fire, striking him multiple times, including a fatal shot to the head.

The shooting unfolded in a crowded residential neighbourhood, with stray bullets tearing through nearby homes.

One mother later discovered a bullet lodged in her hallway after it had passed through her living room wall, just inches from where her son usually sat in the evenings.

“If I had been there last night, that bullet would have hit me in the chest or my face,” another resident told reporters, still shaken by the near miss.

Kelvin “Sugi” Simon, the Member of Parliament for the area, visited the scene and challenged officers over the handling of the operation.

He said he found no visible crime-scene tape and warned police about the danger posed to neighbours, pointing out the bullet hole in a nearby home.

“The situation could have been worse,” he told officers, recalling how he urged them to take the stray bullet incident seriously and ensure it was investigated.

The shooting has reignited longstanding complaints about the conduct of the Antigua and Barbuda Police Force, with residents accusing officers of being too quick to use their weapons.

Critics are calling for a full investigation into the killing, the release of details about the officer involved, and reforms to ensure deadly force is treated only as a last resort.

Unresolved questions remain over whether Simon was armed, why only one officer fired, and whether proper engagement protocols were followed.

In a statement on Thursday night, Acting Commissioner of Police Everton Jeffers extended condolences to Simon’s family and the Bolands community. He pledged that the investigation would be “thorough, transparent, and comprehensive.”

But for many residents, trust in law enforcement has been badly shaken. Until answers are provided, the bullet holes left in family homes — and the loss of a teenager on his birthday — stand as stark reminders of a night that left an entire neighbourhood in fear.

  1. The officers need to be charged because that seems like they were on edge and trigger happy….No brain cells were used just life taken…I know the Police number one defense is gonna be we dunno if he had a gun and used lethal force to get him to surrender……Bunch of clowns from the Pastor come right down…..

  2. The same rubber bullets and tear gas that was used on the people in town for a simple protest couldn’t have been used on that 18 year old? Do you really think we are that dumb or unintelligent as residents of this country? It’s beyond SICKENING that we can clearly see the police are a problem in situations like this yet NOTHING has been done! That’s why the narratives of them being so ignorant, untrained and unprofessional keeps being made because the head in charge is not doing JACK SH*T. Where are the body cameras that were spoken about? Police are just going to keep doing senseless killing until people retaliate and make it a national problem? Then our tourism will plummet AGAIN? I AM TIRED and I hope all the lives lost by the hands of police that took them end up feeling exactly what they caused some day.

  3. Did the man have a gun? That’s the only question the police need to answer. I’m not interested in any crocodile tears.

  4. My people don’t worry. A change is gonna come; the blight on this country will soon be removed. Redemption is at hand

  5. Still can’t come to terms with how police shot and killed the young man in what appears to be a direct and deliberate attack. Will the officer/s be held accountable?

  6. A young life take, could’ve been two! A family left shattered while neighbors are left scatttered! This is what you call a highly dangerous move by law enforcement officers

  7. Wowww wow that is carelessness on the part of the police. But while I appreciate you telling me what the police did, did was the young man in possession of a firearm?

  8. I am still waiting to read the reason why would police open fire on someone, reported to be armed or not. They can’t kill someone without without a justifiable reason to do so

  9. Facts remain was the youth armed in truth maybe not.how can
You just shoot someone without investigating if he was armed or not did you ask him
To surrender wtf do dem since police that we have in the force now.should the family
Retaliate and ones he scunt or kill his family
Members then it would be jungle justice

  10. I understand the firearm that he had was an imitation one. It wasn’t even real. Playing devils advocate here…let us just say that the police felt threatened…why fire kill shots? Secondly why didnt they give him a chance to surrender? The country tense and police are always on edge. Im not saying that this dude shouldn’t have been pursued for whatever domestic issue he was having but not to kill him like that.

  11. Just another one of our young men killed and will be buried and forgotten. But you know who will always remember ? That mother who gave birth to thay child. Let me ask you officer…would you have treated your son this way? Mr commissioner. How long are you going to allow your officers to continue without any accountability? I believe you were appointed for a reason. You claim you are a man of God mr commissioner. You preach the world. Now put the word in practice. The same God you talk about is one of justice. Don’t just sit there. Do something. Be that change we are hoping to see. This cannot continue sir. Too many lives. Too many families are hurting. Please dont let this wash away like the blood of so many others.

  12. Didn’t the report say the guy was Bieng chased? So if anyone is running from the police an he has a firearm as THEY say, does that give u a reason to shoot a man running from u?

  13. There is more in the mortar than the pistol.
    @ Mr Byam – hmmmnnnn!
Where is Mr. Dwayne “PHOTOSHOP” George to lead the protests in Bolans for his PHOTO OPTS. Dwayne don’t let Shuggy and Harold beat you to the punch or do you have to check with Gaston first. Stand with the People for they are the government. Well in theory anyway not the Parliament, nor CABINET’s reality.

  14. So everyone is in uproar.

But firstly, Police have to be very careful when shooting. That. Or those, stray bullet (s) could have caused more deaths.

But according to Renoto Adam’s, former Jamaican Superintendent of police, who in his career had to answer to many deaths of suspects, “parents will see their child with expensive stuff, never inquire as to where they got the money to buy such, but when that child is killed, parents are crying, saying he was a good boy who only followed bad company.”

But who is this BAD COMPANY. Apparently no one have ever seen him. No one is ever bad company, but we are all following him.

Last time police gave suspect time to surrender, police lost a leg. So what are the rules. Does police have to give time to surrender. I want my police officers to feel and be safe protecting me. The ones who are at fault should be the ones suffering.

My home was broken into, ones, my car ones, my wife’s Restaurant 3 times. I have no sympathy for them. None. Zilch. Nada.

The police claims word they got was that suspect had gun. Am not hearing or reading about a denial of that. Until then, I am on the side of the Police.

They just have to be more carefull with stray bullets.

  15. A man is reportedly with a firearm . What type how ow many bullets are unknown but you got to respond. The danger to the community and the officers themselves have to be considered doesn’t it? Teargas rubber rounds to confront a alleged armed person. What’s his name what’s his age where does he live? Do you think all this info was given? We’re always quick to post negative comments in our biasphere (uninformed state of mind). The judges already make their judgement without examining the whole matter. Some prejudging this ain’t it? Presumed Guilty not innocent?

  16. Everything in this place you blame the politicians. How about you say Dwayne and Shuggy put party and politics aside and come me together and work at a feasible solution for the constituents?

Dwayne just buried his own brother…
