Farmers in Antigua are urging stronger police intervention amid a spike in mango thefts during the peak of the season.
A registered farmer from the Old Road community, said thieves—often young villagers—are raiding farms and selling stolen mangoes on Friars Hill Road.
“We work our land and pay for it. They just come, steal the mangoes, and sell them.
We are the registered farmers, not the thieves,” she said.
Despite multiple reports to the police, the problem persists. “We call the police.
They say they’ll warn the parents, but the same boys keep coming back. We need help—even from the Commissioner of Police,” she added.
Crop theft is not new to the island. Farmers have reported stolen bananas, livestock, and equipment in recent years.
The agricultural community is now calling on law enforcement and government officials to implement tougher measures to protect farms and livelihoods.

They have some guys in Swetes and just off Matthew’s road that love to go in people yard and farms to steal then go on Friar’s Hill road to sell.
Farmers should spend a late night on their farms to catch the culprits. Make sure you have a bull- bud. Put a plan arsing on them when they are caught.Lol
Dem can borrow the bullbud that Cutie used to beat “greatful” Franzine 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Every mango season same story. Time for real action now!
Dem tiefing mango like dem planting it. Farmers fed up and rightfully so.
Mango don’t just disappear by itself. Somebody a make money off people hard work.
They need stronger laws and enforcement. This is not petty theft anymore.
Mi nuh understand why dem can’t just ask fi a mango. Some people have no shame.
This a na sudden that just come, as youths back in the day this was done daily. The difference is we didn’t throw stone in a mango tree fu sell mango, our mango was for consumption, plus you can’t go home empty handed cause that mean blows from the old lady.
It was fun back then, green castle, long gut, being chase, sometime you up in the tree afraid to climb down cause the owner a wait fu you. No talk bout cane thief!
But seriously thief mango off someone property to sell is not right plus very dangerous in the new Wadadli.
Sit down behind the bushes and when they are up in the tree, just start to fling stone.
….and when they arrest some young person, we the public will cry out and say advantage and victimization.
Post their pictures so we know not to buy from them
How is the police going to curtail this? I am not condoning the stealing of the mangoes, but police have more urgent matters than to turn watchman for mangoes. Go to your place at night for a few nights and see if anyone comes, or put some cameras. Police don’t have time!
Take matters into your own hands farmers, just stay as anonymous as the thieves, that’s all.
It’s very dangerous to buy anything from thieves, because you cannot be sure of what you are getting..so people please be aware and do not buy from these kids or anyone you know selling stolen goods.
OK!
Fence your farm and post WARNING ☣️⚠️⛔️CAUTION SIGNAGE. Then place bear, animal traps or spiked manholes with barbed wires under the tree.
