REAL NEWS: Frustration continues to mount for the family of a man who reportedly died 10 days ago, because, to date, they have not been able to locate his body.

Health authorities reportedly advised the son of Renal Delva that his father had died of COVID-19 complications on September 25; but there was “no definitive word from the  hospital about the body,” a relative says.

Since then, and despite the son’s efforts to trace it, Delva’s body has not been located at either of the country’s two funeral homes, and there has been no indication from the hospital morgue that his remains are being stored there, either.

“The family wants to lay their dead to rest, bring closure, and move on with their lives,” a relative tells REAL News.  “The young man is now devastated over the situation,” she adds.

“My nephew’s frustration has no end because he still cannot get any answers up to [Tuesday] morning,” the woman says of Delva’s son.

She says the hospital’s top administrator “is too busy to have a conversation with the family while they languish over their deceased.  This is unacceptable,” she declares.

Persons who are aware of the situation are speculating that Delva has been buried already, since COVID-19 corpses are interred quickly – within 72 hours at latest.

They believe that hospital authorities are stalling because they do not know where to lay the blame for misplacing the corpse and for mishandling the situation since.

The relative tells REAL News “it is only when situations hit the airwaves that action is taken.”  Therefore, after this story is told, she is hoping that Delva’s body will be produced or an explanation given by the authorities.

Meanwhile, a woman who attended her cousin’s burial last week tells our News Room she hopes she was not “crying at the wrong funeral.”

She notes that, once a person dies from COVID-19, the body is immediately wrapped and sealed, and therefore family and mourners can never be sure exactly who is being buried.

  1. “She says the hospital top administrators are too busy to have a conversation”…I find that persons in top positions in Antigua, display this superior behavior. Just pay attention to them when you walk walk into any professional establishment -,banks, government offices, the airport etc.

    • @Sandra Robinson, I agree with your comments and you’re so right. These people think that they’re too superior to talk to us low-class as they called us. They need to come off their pedestal and meet us halfway because we are the ones paying their salaries.

  2. Identification of a deceased person by a next of kin should be mandatory prior to the sealing of the body. It is a difficult process because time is of an essence. However, I do not think that any body should be buried without a next of kin notification and timely identification. Once a person has died there are protocols which have to be followed and here lies the conundrum of the hospital. Do they have the details of the next of kin and can they reach that person and have the person respond in a timely manner.
It is hard on the relatives to not get closure by at least knowing where their loved one has been taken. I hope that measures are in place that would allow for the location of the body.
May his soul find rest in peace.

So if the family members of the deceased wished to have an independent autopsy performed, they can’t?
    Hmm?

    • Nope….really fishy and they do this with disease vaccinated patients too so they just ASSUME it’s covid when it could be many other things, no autopsy.

  4. This is just poor negligence. I believe that families should see their loved ones before going into the grave. This will give them closure. I don’t think that I could live with not seeing my loved ones for the last time. God knows that it would drive me insane.
I am sorry that this has happened to this family. I hope that someone hasn’t sold off the family deceased body to an overseas lab for scientific research of COVID-19 death in the Caribbean. Politicians and their friends are all trying to get richer before the next general election. I pray and hope this family found their family deceased body soon. It doesn’t look, good health officials. They need to tag these dead bodies properly before leaving the hospital.

  5. Been saying that they have been lying from day one but alot of persons thinks its foolishness.

  6. I think covid patients are buried after 2 days…he’s probably already underground….This is sad and unacceptable

  7. When someone dies from Covid-19. Does that person’s body still has a living Virus? How could someone catch that Virus if the dead body is not touched? The experts in Viral Diseases did say Covid-19 is airborne.
