Family seeks review of police response after three break-in incidents
A family is calling on the Police Administration to review how officers handled reports of three break-in incidents at their home, saying they no longer feel safe.
In a public statement, the family said the latest attempted break-in was the second in recent weeks and the third incident overall. One of the previous intruders reportedly succeeded in entering the home.
Police responded on each occasion, the family said, but they were dissatisfied with the handling of the latest report. They alleged that the responding officer repeatedly asked whether the women living at the property had a boyfriend or male visitor, despite being told they did not.
The family also said surveillance cameras at the home had previously been tampered with. During the latest incident, all the cameras reportedly went blank, raising concerns that whoever targeted the property may be familiar with its security system.
They further alleged that the officer said there was little he could do because he “didn’t see anything.”
“As victims who have now experienced multiple incidents, including one successful break-in, we expected our concerns to be taken seriously and investigated thoroughly,” the family said. “Instead, we were left feeling dismissed at a time when we were already frightened and vulnerable.”
The family said its criticism was not directed at the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda as a whole, noting that many officers perform their duties professionally. However, it argued that reports of break-ins and attempted break-ins should be treated with urgency and empathy and investigated thoroughly.
The family wants the Police Administration to review the matter and provide appropriate support and protection before a more serious incident occurs.
“We simply want to feel safe in our own home,” the family said.
Police have not publicly responded to the allegations.

We are the safest Caribbean country with very little crime according to the police and the politicians.
With crime increasing and the police overwhelmed, many people feel they must protect themselves, especially since ordinary household items, such as cooking gas, Liquid Draino and electrical cords from old appliances, can be as improvised weapons.
