Everton Howard Cornelius Sr. Recognized for Achievements in Sports and Athletics

Everton Howard Cornelius Sr., a trailblazer in sports and athletics, has been awarded The Governor General’s Faithful and Meritorious Service Award– The Gold Medal for his contributions to sports and national development.

A member of Antigua and Barbuda’s first Olympic team in 1976, Cornelius has dedicated over 50 years to athletics as an athlete and administrator.

As President of the Antigua and Barbuda Athletics Association, he has championed the development of the YASCO Sports Complex and facilitated scholarships for young athletes.

His leadership and passion have inspired generations, making him a cornerstone of sports development in the nation. This award celebrates his lasting legacy in athletics.

  1. Track and field is at a stand still. It’s 2024 and we yet to see a world class medal and finding it harder and harder to even get to a semi’s. Every year is the next and the next becomes the next.
    Just recently the entire squad of our young, upcoming, talented athletes was left sitting on the sideline wondering what’s going on and through all this, stands the top dog a waste of a man. The Olympics just concluded, where he had four years to prepare and we came up empty, so the answer and solution as always according to him is the next four years.
    Are we really serious? Before you receive this top class award, the athletes you represent should’ve at least held one in their hand.
