The Festivals Minister has announced a reduction in the number of finalists for the 2018 Party Monarch Competition.

Daryl Matthew announced recently that the number of finalists in the groovy and jumpy segment will be reduced from 10 to seven.

He said this is being done because the prize monies for finalists is also being increased.

“And that is being done to make the show a more financially attractive show to the artiste themselves,” Matthew said.

He is hoping that the performers will produce higher quality as a result.

“The artists who are out there and have good music will be able to benefit more,” the minister said.

The winner will get $50,000 up from $30,000. Cash for the first runner-up will also be increased to $40,000 and the second runner-up $30,000.

“The financial incentive is huge,” Matthew said, adding that the cost of meeting the prize monies will not be much more than what obtained in the past.
