Wasim Braithwaite is a newcomer to the Antigua’s soca scene, it’s been a bumpy ride so far but he intends to press on.
He did not get past the eliminations last year and suffered the same fate again this year.
He competed in the groovy with Dance With Somebody and Antigua we waking up in the jumpy quarterfinals.
“I didn’t feel like myself during my performance,” Wasim said after being cut.
But the English Harbour resident said, “to sum it all up I’m not really discouraged.”
He told us how he was inspired to start singing.
“For years I’ve been looking up to other genres of music and saying, men, I want to make music like that and then one day I realized how can I call myself an Antiguan and not admire the indigenous music of my land,” Wasim said when asked how he got into soca.
But as of now, he’s still determined to make a name for himself.
“It is too soon to say if it’s hard to get myself out there since I just started taking soca seriously,” he told ANR entertainment.
“My aim musically is to evolve the way we view music in Antigua, basically to not limit myself,” the 30-year-old singer said.
