Electoral Commission Urges Voters to Register, Update ID Cards Ahead of 2026

The Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission is urging eligible citizens who are not yet registered to do so and is calling on registered voters to ensure their voter identification cards are up to date, as it renews its focus on civic participation in the new year.

In a New Year’s Day message, Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission Chairman His Excellency Ambassador Arthur G.B. Thomas said active participation remains central to the country’s democratic health.

“As we move forward, I encourage all eligible citizens who have not yet registered to do so, and I urge registered voters to ensure that their voter identification cards are current,” Thomas said.

He noted that informed citizenship and civic education are essential to maintaining confidence in the electoral system, adding that the Commission will continue to place emphasis on those areas.

“Active participation, informed citizenship, and civic education remain central to the health and vitality of our democracy,” he said.

Thomas reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to working with the public “in a spirit of openness, consultation, and shared responsibility,” as it continues efforts to strengthen democratic institutions and ensure they remain credible and responsive.

The message comes as the Electoral Commission looks ahead to 2026 with an emphasis on engagement, public trust, and sustained participation in the democratic process.
