Community Advocate for St. John’s Rural South Condemns Misuse of Her Name and Likeness
On Friday, I shared publicly that I am battling breast cancer. I made that disclosure to raise awareness and to use my personal experience to bring greater attention to breast cancer during this Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Since then, it has come to my attention that certain individuals or groups have attempted to organize fundraisers and other activities using my name and likeness. I wish to make it absolutely clear that no person, group, organization, or entity has been given authorization or permission to use my name, image, or personal circumstances to raise funds, not on my behalf, nor on behalf of anyone else.
This comes at a time when I am still processing and preparing emotionally and physically for anguishing road ahead. It is both troubling and disheartening that some would attempt to exploit this situation, taking advantage of the empathy and goodwill of others for personal gain.

Let it be clearly understood that any individual or entity found engaging in such conduct will face immediate legal action. I will seek legal recourse and ensure that anyone responsible is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
I have always valued transparency, compassion, and integrity. While I am disappointed by these developments, I remain focused on my healing journey and deeply appreciative of the genuine outpouring of love and support from the community and country.
At this time, the only thing I ask for are your prayers. Your kindness and encouragement continue to strengthen me as I face this challenge. Any future updates about my journey will come directly from me. I have no spokesperson and I am not affiliated with any political, social, or private group or individual acting on my behalf.
To everyone who has reached out with compassion, love, and words of encouragement, I thank you sincerely. Your support means more to me than words can convey.
With gratitude,
Jermaine N. Edwards

Jermaine, it is indeed sad that unscrupulous persons should be using your effort at raising awareness of breast cancer by telling your story.
Yes, I would agree that funding in this area has been ongoing and more still needs to be done but not through exploitation of those brave enough to come forward, raise their hands and show their journey.
I am quite sure, that as an advocate it would be quite easy to have made contact with you and ask for permission to use your name and/or image in any kind of fundraiser. Without that permission it is illegal to do so.
I commend you on your stance to protect your name and image.
At the same time I pray for your journey through this difficult passage of your life. I hope that you will find your way back to wellness sooner rather than later and may God walk with you in your journey. All the best.
