Speaking at the 2025 CIBC Grade Six National Assessment Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, Matthew congratulated the nation’s top primary school achievers and urged them to embrace the next phase of their educational journey with confidence and determination.

“As a ministry, we remain committed to building a system where every story has the chance to reach a successful chapter — from early childhood to university,” Matthew said. “We want every student to feel that their dreams are valid and achievable.”

The minister told the young scholars that while new challenges await them in secondary school, their journey is far from over. “Your story has not ended,” he said. “It is still being written, and only you can decide how it ends.”

Citing the importance of faith and perseverance, Matthew reminded students of the biblical passage from Matthew 5:16: “Let your light so shine before others, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”

He encouraged them to “shine brightly, beautifully, and boldly,” noting that the entire nation was cheering for their continued success.

Matthew also praised the private sector’s role in education, commending CIBC Caribbean for its continued sponsorship of the annual awards ceremony.

“When corporate citizens invest in education, they invest in the very soul of the nation,” he said, acknowledging the partnership as a vital part of Antigua and Barbuda’s education landscape.

The ceremony, held under the patronage of Governor General Sir Rodney Williams, recognized the top 100 performers from the 2025 Grade Six National Assessment.

Dozens of students earned gold and silver awards for their achievements, while the top performers received cash prizes and certificates presented by CIBC Caribbean.

Matthew concluded his address with a message of optimism and national pride: “Go out and shine,” he told the awardees. “Because Antigua and Barbuda is watching, cheering, and believing in you.”
