The Antiguan government is providing a guarantee for a substantial EC$168 million loan to support the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA).

This financial aid aims to bolster APUA’s distribution network and undertake critical infrastructure enhancements.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne initiated this effort, initially approved by the Lower House in 2020.

The loan, secured through a consortium of banks led by ACB Caribbean, primarily supports APUA’s Telecoms Unit, driving projects like the Fiber to Home initiative, re-piping, and sub-sea cable installations.

Browne seeks to reduce broadband costs and explore partial privatization of water services through public-private partnerships for increased efficiency.
