At 10:25 AM local time (14:25 UTC) on February 21, 2025, an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.7 was recorded near Antigua and Barbuda.
According to the University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre (UWI SRC), the earthquake had a depth of 10 km and was located at latitude 17.94°N and longitude 62.51°W.
The tremor occurred approximately 117 km northwest of Saint John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, and 75 km north-northeast of Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevis.
It was also felt about 131 km south-southeast of Brades, Montserrat.
While the earthquake was relatively mild, the UWI SRC has noted that the location and magnitude are preliminary and may be subject to revisions as further analysis is conducted by their team.
The agency’s automated earthquake location systems provide initial data, with more precise calculations expected after evaluation.
At this time, there are no reports of significant damage or injuries, but authorities are monitoring the situation closely. Residents in the affected areas are urged to remain vigilant for any aftershocks.
